50 Cent and T.I. seem to always be involved in some war of words over social media these days and the trend continues with the NY residing rapper taking shots at the ATL resident over a local issue that seems to be spiraling, thanks to social media.
In a city that is seen as the focal point of the efforts to turn Georgia blue, Atlanta’s high earning celebrities weigh outsize influence over local politics. With Atlanta having a Black woman mayor, and outspoken allies like Killer Mike and T.I. given opportunities to advance their own platforms, Atlanta has been called the new “Wakanda” by Tip.
Not all residents of the city think that things are going according to plan and singer Summer Walker is one of those. Recently, she shared her thoughts on politics and how Black people need to find some unity in their aims.
While Walker has been questioned and dragged for some of her more controversial thoughts and opinions, many seemed to be on the same page with her for once with her latest remarks. Responding to a fan comment, Walker tried to redirect a fans frustration about the system and wanting to “burn everything down.”
“Y’all need to take that same passion and energy & use it to come together in the black community. Black people have no unity,” she told the fan, before adding an emoji later on with the addendum of “so unorganized.”
At a press conference during the height of the George Floyd uprisings, the rapper joined Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms and APD Chief Erika Shields in trying to calm down the city. T.I. seems to love his city and mentioned Atlanta has been a place of prosperity for Black Americans, including in the entertainment industry.
“This city don’t deserve this. However, I understand that a lot of others do. But, we can’t do this here. This is Wakanda. This is sacred, it’s supposed to be protected,” said T.I. While his intentions were pure, even then, the Internet took aim at his use of the pop culture world to compare it to a real-life city.
Playing elder statesman, T.I. recently posted a plea to keep the city of Atlanta safe. Many took it as T.I. once again wading into local issues, as a young rapper named King Von who’s life was taken in the city after an altercation with Quando Rondo’s crew, outside of a hookah lounge after an argument. Many took T.I.’s post for that – though it wasn’t.
Apparently, Von’s sister also was aware of 50 and T.I.’s jousting over the internet, and made her own post in which she tagged 50 Cent – seemingly before either had seen the post T.I. made, stating that his own post was NOT about King Von. It didn’t deter 50 from weighing in on the situation.
“A @troubleman31 you gotta chill, you bugging for saying anything,” said 50. “They got casualties this is real s**t, I don’t know what you was thinking but re think it now. They are hurting, they love that boy he was a way out. I bet you don’t even realize they will k*ll you for what you just said. what hood you from again? come on now it’s quiet time.”
