Cuba Gooding Jr. is the latest celebrity faced with a string of accusations. The Hollywood A lister has earned a reputation for being a party boy, something that has not helped persuade people to believe he’s innocent. Despite this, he seems to maintain that he’s done no wrongdoing, so much so that he has not showed up for court in regards to a recent case.
One woman has accused Cuba Gooding Jr. of groping her at a New York City nightclub back in 2018. Due to Gooding failing to respond to the complaint for over a year, she has reportedly won a default judgement against him. The woman, Natasha Ashworth, claims Gooding felt her backside while she was a server at Tao Restaurant and Nightclub. TMZ obtained security footage that backs these claims up. 2 seperate camera angles show the actor appearing to make contact with Ashworth’s rear end. After he initially touched a visibly upset Ashworth can be seen getting into a heated exchange with the Oscar winner. Court documents state that Ashworth told Gooding not to touch her there. She alleges that he responded, “Aw, that’s no fun, and I didn’t, I touched your back.”
Gooding’s defense attorney Mark Heller feels otherwise, stating that the clips do not confirm Ashworth’s story, and also pointing out that she can be seen grabbing Gooding’s arm in the video. Around the time Ashworth filed her claim in October 2019, Heller stated “This is a bogus butt grope claim. The video proves Cuba is innocent beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Due to Gooding never hiring a civil attorney to defend himself, a lawyer has not been listed to represent him in the case. As a result, Ashworth has been handed a default judgement against Gooding regarding her claims.
Gooding has also been criminally charged on six misdemeanor counts of s*xual abuse and forcible touching stemming from the allegations of other accusers. He has been accused of of the same misconduct by at least 30 other women.
The actor has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
