Now that Jada and Will Smith have laid the rumors about August Alsina to rest, others are starting to resurface. The latest is rumors that first came to light in 2015 about actors Will Smith and Margot Robbie, who co-starred in the film Focus. Now many are wondering if their chemistry was one of Will’s possible “entanglements.”
The Smith’s have been very open about their “life partnership,” as they decided to call their marriage that a few years ago. As these rumors seemed to recur with some sort of regularity, the Smith’s had a history of leaving them largely unverified, until the August Alsina issue came to enough of a head that they interviewed each other on Jada’s Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk.
Rewind back to 2005, when Will Smith first revealed to The Daily Mail that him and Jada were open about being attracted to other people. “If it came down to it, then one can say to the other, ‘Look, I need to have s-x with somebody,” he said at the time. “I’m not going to if you don’t approve of it — but please approve of it’.”
Later in 2013, Jada told the Huffington Post that she realized Will was his own man. “I’ve always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay,’” Jada said. “Because at the end of the day, Will is his own man. I’m here as his partner, but he is his own man.”
Even with those previous statements, rumors persisted that the pair had an “open marriage.”
“Open marriage? … The statement I made in regard to, ‘Will can do whatever he wants,’ has illuminated the need to discuss the relationship between trust and love and how they co-exist,” Jada circled back and said on Facebook in 2013. She even stated that their relationship wasn’t an open one as much it is a grown one.
“Here is how I will change my statement … Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship … this means we have a GROWN one.”
Jada seems to value independence in her relationship with her husband, too. In 2015, she told shock jock Howard Stern, “At the end of the day, I’m not here to be anybody’s watcher. I’m not his watcher. He’s a grown man … I trust that the man that Will is a man with integrity. He’s got all the freedom in the world … and as long as Will can look himself in the mirror and be OK? I’m good,” she said.
While Robbie’s name didn’t come up during the recent, record-breaking Red Table Talk, her and Will Smith have been dodging rumors of an “entanglement” since on-set photos from Focus stirred up a bit of controversy. Even then, Robbie indirectly tweeted about the rumors that had hit the wires at the time.
…It’s disappointing that goofing around on set could be taken so out of context.— Margot Robbie (@MargotRobbie) November 8, 2013
Twitter users also started commenting again on the potential rumors, bringing up various threads and calling attention to promotional tour moments that Smith and Robbie shared.
