Actress Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals After 23 Years of Marriage She No Longer Calls Actor Will Smith Her Husband, Says She Needed To See Him Outside Of Husband

Perhaps as a consequence of celebrity, the two-decades-plus marital union of Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith has been enveloped in back room talk. If it wasn’t a rumor of how the terms in which their relationship began, (Will was working through a divorce with his first wife and mother of his eldest son, Trey) or their respective sexualities, the loudest and most frequent word questioned just how “traditional” their marriage was, if at all.

Jada’s video podcast, Red Table Talk, let the air out on some confirmation earlier this year; namely, the infamous “Entanglement” between her and much younger recording artist August Alsina. That “wordsmithing” as spoken by Jada to Will in front of a live-streaming audience, was her choice of nomenclature to describe an extra-marital affair that occurred during an informal period of separation between the Hollywood power couple. Alsina indicated that he obtained pre-approval from Will, which both he and Jada vehemently denied.

Will, in a 2018 interview with Rap Radar, stated that, “We don’t even say we’re married anymore. We refer to ourselves as ‘life partners,’ where you get into that space where you realize you are literally with somebody for the rest of your life…There’s no deal breakers. There’s nothing she could do—ever—nothing that would break our relationship. She has my support ‘till death, and it feels so good to get to that space.”

Now Pinkett-Smith tells People Magazine in a recent interview that she “needed a different form to dissolve all the expectations that I had of a marriage.” The veteran actress continued, “I needed to do that to see Will outside of husband and see him as a human being. I started dissolving all the ideas and expectations and labels.”

Declarations of this nature portend to invite more mystery, more controversy, rather than dispel it. Will and Jada are scheduled to discuss their relationship in greater detail in an upcoming installment of Jada’s Red Table Talk streaming on Facebook Watch and iHeartRadio.

Celebrities often come with spokespersons and PR teams who assist in curating an image and persona that bolsters said celebrity’s brand. Messaging and photography, even Twitter and Instagram profiles, are handled by professionals who travel to great lengths to minimize potentially damaging controversies and maintain an inviting public spotlight…and Jada is by no means a novice in navigating Hollywood and entertainment media.

Could this perhaps be a signaling, a foreshadowing – if you will – of a larger bombshell, one that confirms the deepest of suspicions around the Smith union from the virtual beginning?  

There have been salacious rumors about Will and Jada, even outside of their nuptials that one may dare to repeat aloud. This follow-up episode to Will and Jada’s first may prove to be just as revelatory.
