“As Long As Madea Isn’t A Nun, I Don’t Care”: Disney Announced Tyler Perry Will Produce Sister Act 3, Leaving Fans With Mixed Reactions

While Disney’s theme parks are shut down thanks to the global pandemic, their Disney+ streaming service is booming – thanks to the global pandemic. As traditional theaters remain closed in much of the United States, Disney is taking its portfolio to the streaming wars. Announced was a Sister Act 3 reboot, set to include original star Whoopi Goldberg and produced by Tyler Perry — and fans aren’t quite as excited as they were.

Tyler Perry is of course a prolific filmmaker and mogul in his own right. His Tyler Perry Studios is one of the few soundstages in the country still humming along, thanks to the size of his studio’s physical location and the fact that actors could quarantine there while filming. As other productions have ground to a halt, Perry has still been churning out shows and films.

Perry and Goldberg have worked together before, on 2018’s film Nobody’s Fool, which also featured comedian Tiffany Haddish. At the time, while fans were dragging Tyler’s production for the wigs of the characters (a usual complaint), including Goldberg’s, it seems as if the two were plotting another collaboration on the low – Sister Act 3.

With Disney’s reveal that the two will be combining to make the long-rumored project happen, fans already started to cry foul. While Perry’s been anointed by the business, there’s still a set of fans that don’t believe the quality of Perry’s work is as important as the industry touts it to be – and they’ve gone to work already.

While the movie is only in development, we’re sure to hear more as 2021 ramps up.
