Since 2016, Growing Up Hip Hop has chronicled the lives of Hip Hop’s most famous offspring. With them are a host of outliers from parents to partners and friends along to help tell their stories.
Bow Wow has been the star of GUHHATL for 4 seasons now. The rapper vet is the very definition of Growing Up Hip Hop, dropping his debut album at the age of 10 under the guidance of Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri. Now 33, he is listed as one of the shows executive producers.
While his credentials are pretty hard to debate, one cast member inclusion in the show has been perplexing the “Bounce With Me” rapper.
Drea Kelly is the ex-wife of R&B singer R. Kelly, and a current supporting cast member on GUHHATL. Her Wikipedia lists her as an American choreographer, dancer and actress. The 47 year old married Kelly when she was 22, after dancing background for him. Together Drea and Kelly have three children: daughters Joann (b. 1998), Jaah (b. 2000) and son Robert Jr. (b. 2002).
While their marriage ended in 2009, Drea’s name has stayed in the headlines for years with people wondering what her involved was in the accusations against Kelly. Their marriage overlapped key years in his life where he was being accused of some insane stuff.
Drea participated in the Surviving R. Kelly documentary created by Lifetime, that ultimately lead to charges been filed against Kelly.
Bow Wow doesn’t seem to happy with that, and has had some choice words for Drea in the 3 years since.
He openly refused to meet with her during an episode of GUHHATL. He said “”I don’t know her to say anything bad about her but just by watching that documentary, I’m just like…I’m cool…I’m about my brand,” Bow Wow said at the time. “I don’t want to be associated with pictures with nobody that got anything to do with what’s going on with all of that. I’m cool. No surprise pop-ups. None of that. If R. Kelly’s ex-wife comes, I’m gonna ask her about the documentary. I got questions. How much y’all got paid to lie on that man?”
In a twitter post today, seemingly unprovoked, he also said “Why is drea kelly even on #guhhatl shes like 62 and her only claim to fame is well…. and how long you gone ride that wave? just saying. Dont forget im your boss.” Drea has yet to respond.
