Britney Spears has been in the news a lot lately. Fans of the pop star have been very concerned about the singer, who for the last decade has been locked into a conservatorship under her father Jamie Spears. Public curiosity about what exactly is going on with Britney has lead streaming service Hulu to air a documentary about her titled “Framing Britney Spears.”
The New York Times documentary about the pop star’s life and the nature of her conservatorship had fans and supporters of the star talking all weekend, trying to understand exactly what is going on with her. Several stars even tweeted #FreeBritney, including Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker.
“No artist today would have to endure the literal torture that media/society/utter misogynists inflicted upon her,” tweeted Paramore front woman Hayley Williams. “The mental health awareness conversation, culturally, could never be where it is without the awful price she has paid.”
Fans have been pushing for the court to abolish her father’s power and give the star back her freedom. In addition to this, they’ve also begun demanding apologies from people who they feel may have aided in Britney’s spiral over the years.
One person in particular they’ve demanded an apology from is Britney’s ex-boyfriend and fellow pop star Justin Timberlake. When the pair split in 2002, Timberlake was quickly painted by the media to be free of all blame in the split, while Britney’s partying and wild nights put a target on her back. Many people blamed her for the break-up, and she was even brought to tears by Diana Sawyer in an interview where she was accused of causing Timberlake “so much pain.” The “SexyBack” star never came to Spear’s aid, and even egged on the situation with the song “Cry Me a River” and its accompanying video.

While tweets from Spears this morning paint the star to be in good spirits, behind the scenes she is reportedly trying to work on her on documentary to clear things up. She fears her father might block it from coming out.
According to Page Six, father Jamie is “drunk with power”, even grounding the 39 year old star this past summer when she went out to see some friends. A source said “Jamie won’t let her have any freedom or responsibility over her own life. This summer, her father grounded her for three weeks because she dared to meet a friend for a socially-distanced walk on the beach and a heart-to-heart conversation.
They continued: “He is drunk with power over Britney’s life. She wants to work, she wants to make music and perform, but he is too controlling. He has set her up to fail. Britney hasn’t had the proper help she needs to be able to control her own finances, to fully deal with her mental health issues, to be the mother she wants to be.”
