Some people just don’t know when to quit, and it’s looking like Mo’Nique is one of them. The award-winning actress has been at the center of the “Bonnet debate”, which has arrested the attention of many social media users within the last few weeks. Mo’ also said that if she saw one of her “Beautiful Queens” out in public with a bonnet, she would pretty much run up on ’em and “tap them” to give them some encouragement to her “sister”. Recently, a woman encountered the comedian, and it proved that the comedian was a woman of her word.
The divisive conversation stemmed from an experience that Mo’ had while traveling through Atlanta’s airport where she witnessed multiple women traipsing through with bonnets and pajama wear. The “Precious” star shared to her Instagram followers that the visual displeased her, and pushed her to address the sighting.
Mo’nique wanted to make it perfectly clear that she was not meant to come with a stance that was steeped in judgment, but rather concern, which was the reasoning for her taking too long to address the subject. “The question that I’m having to you my sweet babies is, when did we lose pride in representing ourselves?” she asked via Instagram. “When did we step away from, ‘Let me make sure I’m presentable when I leave my home? Let me make sure I’m representing the family I created so that if I’m out in the street I look like I have pride in myself.’”
She continued, “All I’m saying is, could you please comb your hair? And if you don’t want to comb your hair, they’ve got enough s**t out here now baby where you can style yourself up and look like you have pride. I’m not saying you don’t have pride, but the representation that you’re showing — someone would have to ask you to know that you had it.”
Some users agreed with her take, while some did not. However, it wasn’t until a later post that the “Almost Christmas” shared what seemed to be a random woman wearing what looked like a plastic bag or shower cap on her head while at what looks to be an airport. Uninformed of what could have prompted the woman to travel in such attire or of her overall situation, the comedian and actress did not hesitate to use her as an “example”.
However, the action did not sit well with fans who felt that Mo’Nique may have taken it a few steps too far. People began to accuse Mo’ of shaming and being judgemental; two things that she claimed were the farthest from what she wanted to come across as.

It seems like Mo’nique is still hiking the bonnet hill (let’s hope she does not die there) as she was sighted on an actual hike in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Mo’ was seen approaching a woman who had a bonnet on, as shared by The Jasmine Brand, along with a screenshot of a text message conversation that read “My dad seen Monique at Stone Mountain today and she was talking to some girl with a bonnet on.”
I guess she meant what she said when stated “”If I see you in the streets, in the airport, in the Walmart and you got a bonnet on, and you got slippers on and you looking like what the f**k, auntie gon’ tap you and say ‘hey baby girl, show what you’re worth.’ “
