Some people suffer and you never know because they are suffering in silence. Such is the case with actress Countess Vaughn who has provided laughs for millions of viewers and fans alike from her days of playing the role of “Kim Parker” on both Moesha and the starring role in her comedic role on The Parkers.
Countess Vaughn stole the hearts of many when she was a series regular on the popular show 227 playing the role of “Alexandria DeWitt”. When she resurfaced in the Brandy led UPN sitcom, fans wanted more and more from Vaughn. The quick comedic wit and personality led people to fall for both the character and Vaughn herself, always wondering what would be next.
Her time on Moesha garnered her an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1998, and that would only be the beginning at the time for Vaughn. Entering into the starring role on the show The Parkers for five years of steady work was amazing for the actress, but afterward, work would not be as consistent.
While “Moesha” star Brandy would go on to have a successful career in both film/tv and music for years after the show’s ending, Vaughn didn’t have the same luck after The Parkers’ ending (although the show hit when it did). What Countess did find, however, was love (or what she thought was love) in longtime boyfriend at the time, David Benjamin Richard Whitten.
What fans didn’t know, was that Vaughn had been suffering from abuse at the hands of Whitten for years. According to TMZ, Vaughn had to seek out an order of protection from her ex-boyfriend after he threw bleach in her face in 2018, all to prevent her from being able to work as an actress. Furthermore, she claims that anytime she would advance in her career, he would become more physical toward Vaughn.
Whitten allegedly threatened to end her life and leak explicit videos of her, although he is the father to one of her children. Thankfully, a Los Angeles Judge has ordered that he stay 100 yards away from the actress and he is not to have any contact with her or her children. Vaughn is said to fear for her and her children’s safety due to Whitten’s past antics.
