Television actor Bryshere Gray, aka Yazz (or Yazz The Greatest), has been in some legal hot water. Last summer the actor, best known for his role in the canceled TV musical-drama from Lee Daniels, Empire on Fox, was arrested for charges stemming from an alleged incident with his wife, Candice Jimdar, in Arizona. Newly released footage has been leaked from the Goodyear PD that makes the incident a bit more questionable.
Reports began to arise last July that Gray had been locked up following an alleged unfortunate exchange that involved his wife at their Arizona home. According to Goodyear PD, they responded to a call around 10:15 pm on a Sunday night. Gray, who also starred in BET’s highly popular television miniseries The New Edition Story as Michael Bivins, initially refused to leave the house. His inaction prompted the crisis negotiations team to be called to the house in order to assist.
At around 7 o’clock on Monday morning, Gray was taken into custody and booked into Maricopa County jail. Jimdar told law enforcement officials that she confronted her husband after seeing messages on his cell phone between himself and other women. According to her, his defense was that they were “fake” before going after her in a menacing manner. Gray’s wife was later treated and release for non-threatening injuries. According to documents, at one point she lost consciousness during the incident.

Footage of his interrogation with investigators has now been made public. In the 2 hour-long interview, Gray can be seen defending himself saying that “I have a career, I’m an artist, I have a lot of things to lose.” He then initially refers to Jimdar as his “best friend” before responding to the inquiry if they were married by saying “in a way.” Gray then claims in the video that he and Jimdar were in an “open relationship.” “We have an open relationship as well so I allow her to have a boyfriend because I’m really busy,” he said.
The actor said that his wife was also suicidal and that a man named “Mark” came over when he left and could have been the one who caused the incident to Jimdar. “[I] Went to my friend’s house, then she called ‘Mark’ over,” Bryshere claimed. “He didn’t see something he liked, that’s why I have that F1 Savannah cat, but he’s just a kitten, I don’t know what happened.”
“Mark”, according to Jimdar’s account to police, is a fake name used by Gray when he doesn’t want to be recognized while at hotels and in public. “He just says his name is Mark,” she said. “That’s like his little fake name.” Officers say they do not believe the claims made by Gray. Jimdar also states that Gray is bipolar and refuses to take his medication. The actor is was eventually hit with three charges.
Byshere eventually pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 days behind bars. In addition to his time behind bars the actor was sentenced to three years of probation.
