The fight for transgender rights and awareness is ongoing. As more continue to embrace their sexualities, there are still those that are uninformed and/or speak out in opposition. The transgender community have been a trending topic as of late, and some celebrities have recently come under fire for their statements.
Earlier last year, rappers Boosie Badazz and Young Thug both faced backlash for misgendering 13-year-old daughter to retired NBA star Dwyane Wade, Zaya, on separate occasions. Their comments offended many as it is still a common occurrence for many in the trans community to be misgendered.
“All I wanna say to dwade son is: ‘GOD DON’T MAKE MISTAKES,'” read a since-deleted tweet from Young Thug. “But hey live your true self.” Boosie Badazz went on an expletive-laden Instagram rant to express his disdain for Dwyane Wade and wife Gabrielle Union in support of their daughter. “That is a male. A 12-year-old. At 12, they don’t even know what they next meal gon’ be,” said Badazz.
“They don’t have it figured out yet. He might meet a woman, anything, at 16 and fall in love with her […] how he gon’… like, bruh, you going too far, dog.” Continuing, he stated, “Like bruh, if he gay, let him be gay. Like don’t address him as a woman, dog. He’s 12-years-old, dog. He’s — he’s not there yet. He hasn’t made his final decisions yet.”
Elsewhere, B2K member J Boog recently faced immense criticism in regards to his response to Michelle Obama and Zaya Wade’s conversation. Boog placed a comment under a social media post stating that how the media is propping up children who are trans is “demonic”.
“Using this child for their new agenda. Take away the man, make the women the new man. And no more reproduction. This child shouldn’t be the front runner of the movement. Sad but true,” wrote the singer.

Rapper and actress Lil’ Mama also offered commentary on the subject matter. “So children are too young to smoke cigarettes, too young to drink alcohol, too young to get a drivers license, too young to go to a club, too young to gamble, too young to rent a car, but old enough to [expletive]? This is insanity #America,” wrote the “Lip Gloss” rapper. “DEPOPULATION AT ANY COST CAT FIGHTS SWORD FIGHTS Used be a cat now ima dog WHATEVER TO STOP NEW LIFE REPRODUCTION.”
With the transgender community continuing to fight for their rights, barriers continue to break as it is now being reported that a father out of Canada was arrested for violations of a court order pertaining to his trans son. According to a report by The New York Post, the Canadian man, who had been banned from publicly speaking on the teen’s transition, was found in contempt by the courts for continuous misgendering his son.
The father had been opposed to his son’s transition and began litigation against the mother of his child. However, with the matter being settled in high court he was ordered to “not stand in the way” of the teen’s transition.
“[The father’s] refusal to respect [the boy’s] decisions regarding his gender identity is troublesome,” wrote Chief Justice Bauman, adding the “significant pain” the teen has faced since. The Canadian father is currently attempting to raise funds via a Go Get Funding page for his legal battles.
