Keyshia Ka’oir, wife of rapper Gucci Mane, has been plagued by rumors for years now. The 32 year old has been swarmed by accusations that she left 3 children behind in Jamaica in order to pursue a glamorous life in America with her new husband. The mother has been forced to defend herself over the years as people have assumed she’s an absentee parent and not providing for her kids or present in their lives.
Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir wed 4 years ago in a lavish 1.7 million dollar ceremony. The couple wedding featured a $75,000 10 feet cake designed by Edda’s Cake Designs that needed to be cut with a sword. The tied the knot at The Four Seasons in Miami surrounded by family and friends. The wedding pictures and accompanied wedding special “The Mane Event” which aired on BET were criticized for not showing their children from previous relationships. This made people even more convinced that she was in fact not caring for her kids and had left them in Jamaica.
During an interview with Wendy Williams in 2017, she defended herself against the allegations and opened up about details from her childhood that dispel these rumors. “That’s not true” Keyshia told Wendy Williams, 53, about the reports. The beauty and fitness entrepreneur elaborated. “I left Jamaica at 10-years-old after seeing my dad get brutally murdered,” she admitted. “I came to America at that time at 10, and did all my schooling here. So, there’s no way I would have three kids at 10-years-old, it just doesn’t make sense.”
The thing with our children is, we don’t want them too much in the limelight,” Keyshia continued. “They do live with us, they’re not in Jamaica. And, the internet are bullies and children are vulnerable so this is something Gucci and I came up with, we’re not going to put our kids in the spotlight and I said after witnessing my dad being murdered at 10-years-old, I’m super protective of them and it’s always going to be that way.”
Despite clearing these rumors up years ago, people seem to still really believe them. Today on twitter she had to defend herself again after someone brought up the “kids in Jamaica”. “so do Keyshia Ka’oir really have other children in Jamaica ?” asked one user. “NO!” she quickly responded, with fan in the comments coming to her defense.
“She just had a party for one a while back them kids probably don’t wannabe known on this sick internet with a bunch of weirdos” said one follower.
