More details are surfacing surrounding the unfortunate Richard Sherman situation. As reported earlier, the 33-year-old Super Bowl Champion was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife’s family. He was taken into custody on Wednesday, July 14th, and was initially held without bail. However, it is now being reported that he has been ordered to be released from custody following a court hearing.
Multiple reports arose earlier this week that Sherman had been taken into custody. A 911 call showed his wife, Ashley Sherman, in a frantic state as she stressed to dispatchers that authorities were needed at the residence immediately, and highlighted that no weapons were involved. She did, however, reveal to dispatchers that she had reason to believe that Sherman was trying to harm himself.
Following the incident, an “emotionally shaken” Ashley Sherman told the Seattle Times that she would not be offering any statements at this time, except for the fact that nobody was harmed. “At this time we’re going to make no statements, except he didn’t harm anybody,” she told them. “My kids were not harmed in the incident. He’s a good person and this is not his character. We’re doing all right, just trying to get him out. I want people to know no one was injured.”
On Thursday, Judge Fa’amomoi Masaniai of the Kings County District Court ordered Sherman’s release without bail after labeling him a “pillar of the community”, according to ESPN. His attorney, Cooper Offenbecher, also mirrored the judge’s sentiments. “Richard Sherman is among the best in our community,” claimed Offenbecher at the hearing. “He is a good person and a good soul. He is taking these allegations very seriously.”
Sherman’s wife also decided to speak in support of her husband, saying that she will stick beside him. “I love and support my husband,” she said. “I am committed to helping Richard get the support and care that he needs. Richard has always been a loving father and husband. And we are looking forward to seeing him at home with his family.”
Surveillance footage of the incident on the night in question has surfaced, which shows Sherman trying to forcefully enter into the household. Sherman’s wife also expressed to the officer that he was seeking counseling for issues surrounding mental health. Another hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, although he is not required to appear as his attorneys can attend in his place.
