The battle of the 90s continues to rage on. Who would’ve thought that we would be here with some of our favorite nostalgic artists beefing? If you were not aware, Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men got into it with Kandi Burruss of Xscape after she revealed her truth about being disrespected during their studio session. With this, another account of bad experiences with Boyz II Men has resurfaced in the name of their former main producer, Dallas Austin.
Dallas Austin is a super producer who is responsible for some of your favorite songs by some of your favorite artists. From Grace Jones to TLC, to Madonna, to Monica, his range of talent is extensive. The list of talent that he’s worked with is extensive. But the list of artists who’ve rubbed him the wrong way is seemingly short.
Austin participated in a sit-down interview with VladTV where he discussed his lengthy career and the experiences he’s had working with all the artists, which included Boyz II Men. Austin is responsible for producing the group’s debut album, Cooleyhighharmoney, which would go on to be certified 9x platinum by the RIAA.
The album also included their debut single “Motown Philly”, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 charts, produced by Dallas Austin. Austin spoke to Billboard in an interview where he mentioned that creating the song was fun, and although the group had visions of working with Babyface and a few others, ultimately, he would go on to produce the majority of the album.
The group’s second album would look much different as he only produced one song. Speaking with Vlad, he shared the reason behind it.
“”I didn’t like them after that,” he said. Plain and simple.
He began to share that the group and label wanted to work with him for the second album, but he refused. Their heads began to get bigger and they were more “gassed”, becoming unbearable to be around. Sessions would turn into a flashy and boastful experience, causing him to not want to continue their working relationship further.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Austin revealed that the group was blatantly disrespectful to Babyface when they worked with him as he presented the song “I’ll Make Love To You” to them. According to Austin, the group hated the song and felt they could write a much better song. The single would go on to be a massive success, spending 14 weeks at the number one spot on the charts.
Upon hearing Austin’s VladTV interview, Boyz II Men group member Nathan Morris was the one that came forward to defend the group. Taking to his social media Nathan expressed:
