Welcome to Sweetie Pies star and matriarch Robbie Montgomery is currently mourning the loss of her “sister” and best friend jessie Smith Lucas.
The American soul singer is having a rough go at it as of late, as this passing comes only 6 months after her son James Timothy Norman was arrested.
Its believed her nephew, Andre Montgomery’s life was taken in a sick insurance claim scheme, with his uncle securing a $450K life insurance policy on his teenage nephew in which he was the sole beneficiary. Upon murdering him, Norman was looking to cash out. Also arrested was the insurance agent Waiel Rebhi Yaghnam of St. Louis, Missouri, who’s also a producer with cuts on Nelly’s Nellyville.
Norman and his nephew both played significant roles on the show, which showed Norman’s day to day as a general manager and feature Montgomery and his relationship with Ms. Robbie, who was raising him.
Bad business was believed to have lead Norman into money woes, with several restaurants closing around the country.
Last time Ms. Robbie was able to release a statement, she asked her prayers and confessed that the ordeal had left her “weak”. “Thanks For The Prayers, But At This Time I’m Weak And Can’t Make A Statement. Please Keep Praying For Me And My Son” she reportedly told the STL News via text messages.
While its obvious her family is still sorting through the mess of the murder and the toll it has surely taken on them, this recent loss of her sister can only be adding more sadness to the pot.
Taking to her Instagram, Ms. Robbie posted a heartfelt goodbye to her “sister”. “I lost my best friend today who has always been like a sister to me” she said in the post.
The caption accompanied pictures of herself and Lucas, maybe of which were throwbacks from their time as The Original Ikettes.
The Ikettes were the backup singers for the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, in the 1960s. While her time in the band Robbie grew very close with lead singer Tina Turner and used to encourage her to leave Ike.
