Lil Nas X is still dealing with some of the backlash from his BET Awards performance. The pop star took to the award show stage this past weekend to share a performance of his hit single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”. The number got rave reviews and applause from some, but many others seem to still be really upset with Nas, who shared a kiss with another man at the end of his performance. Appearing to lean into the drama, Nas threatened naysayers that he will take it further next time if people keep ridiculing him.
Lil Nas X is wasting no time capitalizing off the current buzz, taking to social media earlier today to announce his debut album Montero will be dropping soon with a Marvel Studio inspired promo video.

He spent much of the last few days interacting with people on twitter engaging in conversations and defending his performance. While he took a lot of the critique in stride, he did take a moment to highlight the seriousness of his performance and what it meant to him to be on that stage. “it took me a lot of time to mentally prepare for this performance.” he tweeted yesterday. “while on stage i was trembling knowing that i was performing something like that in front of my straight peers. even during the performance i was having a hard time calming my nerves. thank you guys for the love.”

It was not all hate, as Hip-Hop mogul Diddy made sure to shout Nas out for his fearlessness. Several others came forth in support as well including Adam Lambert, Pose Star MJ Rodriguez and more.

Today it seems the hate got to Nas a bit, the rapper went on Instagram Live to ‘cry’ about the backlash he’s still receiving from BET Awards. Shedding what appears to be crocodile tears, the rapper states, “I’ve been trying to act like everything is ok, but the truth is… I’ve been trying act like everything is ok, but the truth is…. I want everybody to stream ‘Call Me By Your’ name. In true troll fashion, the rapper then began dancing and celebrating.
