Timbaland and Swizz Beatz VERZUZ series is gearing up for it’s latest installment, Soulja Boy vs Bow Wow. In build up to the face off, Soulja Boy has been going viral for a series of exaggerated claims regarding his level of success and stats. The hilarious trend he’s started has everyone online claiming many famous “firsts” and stats mocking the star. Soulja seems pretty serious however, and has even recently laid claim to selling more records than the late great Michael Jackson whose released such classic albums as Off The Wall and Thriller.

VERZUZ has been doing wonders for artists and their catalogs, helping reintroduce a handful of successful acts from the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. Most recently Eve and Trina went head to head, with the likes of SWV, Xscape, Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, Brandy and Monica all doing their own installments. It was rumored that Mary J Blige and Toni Braxton might also go head to head in a few weeks but has been denied by the official VERZUZ twitter account.
Soulja Boy and Bow Wow is going down today, drumming up all the nostalgia for MySpace, Sidekicks and Jersey dresses. It was speculated that Bow Wow would face off against Romeo Miller, but it was eventually settled that he and Soulja Boy would be a better match up. Both rappers began their careers early in their teens, becoming staples in Word Up magazine, BET’s 106 & Park and the growing internet age. Soulja holds the distinctions of being one of the first acts to really take off through Youtube and social media with his hit single “Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)”. It topped the Billboard 100 and was nominated for best rap song at the 2008 Grammy Awards

Today should be a interesting showdown, as Soulja Boy is known for his braggadocios personality and outrageous claims. In the past, he’s even claimed to selling more records that Michael Jackson’s Thriller. In 2019 he said “You know how much money I made for Interscope and Jimmy Iovine with ‘Crank That,’ and ‘Soulja Boy Tell ’em Dot Com? I’m wroth $30 million right now myself, ‘Crank That,’ sold 15 million ring tones. It went diamond, sold more than ‘Thriller.’”

He’s also accused acts of stealing his flow, from Drake to Ariana Grande. On Grande he said “I said she’s a thief because she stole my swag. She stole my bars, my whole delivery and she didn’t give me no credit. This is not a claim that personally came from me, this is a claim that was made by the media and the news station. So I just caught wind of it, I ain’t even hear her single or none of that.”
