“Red Table Talk” continues to shed light on Jada Pinkett Smith, daughter Willow Smith and a handful taboo topics and interest the two seem to share in common. Through the show, the family have been able to shift the lens on them and the idea of their cookie cutter Hollywood unit, and spotlight just how dynamic, open minded and experimental the Smiths really are. Many fans have been confused by recent confessions from the duo, and have begun questioning just what kind of home Jada has raised her children in.
Willow and Jada’s sexuality have come up in past installments of the show. While Willow has always drawn speculation about her sexual preference due to her androgynous nature, but mom Jada recently confessed to also having feelings for women in the past. During the episode, Jada told daughter Willow that she could see her “falling in love with a woman one day.” Willow agreed with her mom stating, “I’ve had my fair share of swooning and being like, ‘Oh my God, she’s so beautiful. She’s so talented.’”
Jada followed up with her own confession, stating she’d “swooned a lot” over other women. She expanded upon this saying “Two times I’ve been infatuated with a woman.” She went on to say this was “early, early on” in her twenties. She eventually went on to marry Will Smith in 1997.
Willow went on to say “I don’t feel like I’ve been in love with a woman just yet, but I definitely feel like it could happen, because I’ve had very strong feelings for women before.”
The two have also discussed their relationship with pornography, with Jada confession to seeing Willow’s Tumblr years ago and being shocked at the adult content she was being exposed to. “I remember the first time I went on Willow’s Tumblr, she was 10 or 11,” said Jada. “She was very matter of fact, she said, ‘I’m going to my Tumblr page but as we’re going to the Tumblr page you’re going to see a lot of stuff. This has nothing to do with me.’ So she’s just scrolling, scrolling. And when I tell you I saw some of the most hardcore pornography on Tumblr…”
Recently the pair, of course joined by matriarch Adrienne Banfield-Norris, discussed polyamory. Willow explained that she’s is poly because she does not have the same sex drive as her partners, and would be open to them having someone else to fill that need is she were to fall short.
“Let’s say you haven’t always been the person wanting sex all the time, but your partner is,” Willow explains. “Are you going to be the person to say, ‘Just because I don’t have these needs, you can’t have them either?'”
She continued, “That’s one of the reasons why I was interested in poly because I was introduced to it through kind of a nonsexual lens. In my friend group, I’m the only polyamorous person and I have the least sex out of all of my friends.”
Fans on twitter felt this was a result of Jada’s parenting, and made some troubling comments. One fan commented, “She was introduced to it because of her parents let’s be real we know they in to sharing.” Another one suggested, “Girl please jada is your mom we know why your poly.”
