The Smith family continues to prove that their openness with their children is unique and with that, comes a closeness that some other families cannot replicate. Though their celebrity status gives them a specific status in our minds, in the minds of their children, they’re still just parents that can, and will, embarrass you – even on their own TV show.
On a prior episode of Red Table Talk, the family had “the talk” about sex that a lot of women don’t. They filmed the episode to talk openly about the issue between the three generations represented on the show, and Jada was surprised at some of her own daughter’s answers – as Jada’s mother was surprised in kind about her answers as well.
“I did not want Willow to have shame of any kind,” Jada Pinkett explained on the show about why she wanted to talk to her daughter about it. “She needs to be at that table to hear it all.” Jada especially understands this because of how the Internet and other mediums can affect children and their understanding of sex.
“If I have to sit up here and tell her how she has to be careful in these streets because of all the harms that may come to her because she is a woman,” Jada Pinkett began. “Then, I am damn sure not leaving out the good stuff.”
Speaking of the good stuff, Jada got down to it with Willow, asking her what her first introduction to it was. Jada was shocked to find out that it included her, and husband Will.
“My introduction to sex was obviously walking in on you and Daddy,” Willow drops. “That was the first introduction to sex. I think it was in Aspen. I was going downstairs to get some juice. I saw for a little moment, and then I ran away. I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so crazy. What did I just see?’”
Of course, Jada pressed Willow on how discovering her parents made her feel and she had a great answer, regardless of her age.
“I just overstepped a boundary. I wasn’t supposed to be there. It was like if I walked in on you meditating. When Mommy is meditating, don’t get in her business.”
While the kids are not allowed to be in Mommy’s business, it doesn’t mean that she’s not allowed to be in theirs.
Jada shared a story on the same episode of Red Table Talk of when her mother’s intuition told her that the exact moments when sons Jaden and Trey lost their virginity, a fact which might be highly embarrassing to any children.
“I knew when they both lost their virginity,” she says in the clip. “I knew the night Jaden lost his virginity.” She then explains how she had the same moment with Trey. “I had a moment with Trey in the kitchen where I looked at him, and I was like, ‘You’ve had sex.’ He ran into the bathroom. He’s like ‘fine, yes, I’ve had sex.’”
“It was like their innocence was gone,” she continued. “I can always tell with some of your friends, too,” she tells Willow. “You can just see the maturity.”
