Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss has been spending the quarantine like the rest of us – trying to keep herself occupied and take care of herself while stuck in the house. While the show is currently in production on the latest season, she’s also been putting on a show of her own on social media.
Earlier this week, she sat down with rapper Da Brat and the two discussed much, as they’ve been in the Atlanta music scene together for years – Brat as a rapper with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Records and Kandi as part of the R&B girl group Xscape. The two talked about how their long friendship impacted the way Da Brat came out to friends and family like Kandi, and then the world.
The two chatted about their careers – and of course, how Da Brat came out, but she still had one love that got away back in the day. Apparently, she used to date NBA basketball great Allen Iverson, a fact which sent the internet reeling.
“He had a baby mama, some kids, he had a lot of stuff going on. It lasted for a good while. Both of my grandmothers loved him…It just didn’t work out. He had too many b****es. I think the last straw was we were sitting in the hotel, and this half-naked b**** walks up the hallway, talking about she’s looking for him…I must have molly whopped that b*tch down the hallway. I was like you know what, I said I can’t do this. I said I can’t do this with you.”
Kandi’s been vocal about how the current pandemic and the uprisings that have arisen over the past year have taken a toll on her emotionally as well, sharing how it’s forced her to have some hard conversations with her son early on.
“My son Ace, who’s four, he was a policeman on career day. And so my husband was trying to explain to him, you know, what was going on and why everybody was so upset and what was happening with the police,” Burruss recalled while appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live. “Ace was confused. He was like, ‘So, the police are the bad guys?'”
At that moment, Burruss became visibly emotional and teared up.
“Now isn’t that crazy to have to explain that to a four-year-old?” Burruss added. “For you to be Black and have to worry about the police being the bad guys.”
All the stress of the pandemic and more has, much like the rest of us, caught up to Kandi in terms of weight gain. She took to her Instagram to share her journey to building a workout routine – sharing some hot photos in the process to document the progress.
Apparently, Kandi’s been having a cousin come to train her early in the mornings during the pandemic and it seems to be helping. She took to a number of poses in fun wearing a high-waisted Louis Vuitton bikini and recreating some moments in music history – and also teasing her 18-year old daughter and husband in the process.
“The beginning of COVID, I was working out and I was in shape. And even then I wanted to lose 10 pounds but I ended up getting lax and comfortable and I ended up gaining 20. So that means I have 30 pounds of which I would like to lose,” she said on her Instagram Stories.
“I’m giving y’all a 90s #2livecrew album cover on the 2nd pic,” she joked.
