Keke Palmer Reveals She Has Polycystic Ovary Syndrome After Years Of Trying To Clear Acne Marks

Keke Palmer has reminded us continually that she’s not here to just entertain, but also to uplift. Even during the uprisings earlier in the year, Palmer took the time to hit the frontlines and remind people she’s here to inform.

She’s being tested health-wise with a disease known as polycystic ovary syndrome, according to her Instagram, and she wanted to share her journey with this newly discovered aspect of her journey.

She also shared a common complaint among Black women with regards to the standard of care that they tend to receive from doctors. The star complained that she had to do the research for herself in order to truly figure out what was happening to her.

She then went to a doctor who was able to confirm that she has the hormonal disorder, which comes with side effects like acne, excessive hair growth and weight gain.

“For some of you this may be TMI, but for me my platform has always been used for things much greater than me,” she said. “Polycystic [ovary] syndrome has been attacking me from the inside out my entire life and I had no idea.”

“It took ME taking a personal look into my family that has a history of diabetes and obesity, to understand what was ACTUALLY happening with me,” she said. “And unfortunately doctors are people and if you don’t ‘look the part’ they may not think that’s your problem. They may not even suggest it if you ‘look healthy’ whatever that means!”
