Harry & Meghan have seen their last year played out across several mediums over the last few weeks. From their viral interview with Oprah, to their various family members who chimed in via the press, and now in a third Lifetime TV movie special.
Titled “Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace”, the film is the follow-up to two other made for TV specials by the powerhouse network. It predecessor is 2018’s Harry & Meghan and 2019’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. That film followed the continuing love story of newlyweds Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle during their first year of marriage.
Stars Charlie Field & Tiffany Smith starred in the last film. No word on if they will reprise their roles. This film is set to follow the events that drove the couple out of Buckingham Palace, and their journey to find a new life and new home in the United States.
According to Deadline, “It will detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that ‘The Firm’ was not defending them against the press’s attacks and Harry’s fear that history would repeat itself and he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother’s untimely death. Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will also look at the private family feuds between Will and Harry, Kate and Meghan, and Harry with Will and Charles, that lead to the ultimate break from the royal ties.”
Variety reports that Menhaj Huda, who directed the first two films, is back to helm this one, while Scarlett Lacey (who co-wrote the 2018 film and wrote the 2019 follow-up) is back to write “Escaping the Palace.” Merideth Finn and Michele Weiss are the executive producers of “Harry & Meghan: Escaping The Palace.”
People on social media have already expressed their lack of enthusiasm surrounding the film. Some comments below:
