All About Laughs
While most immediate BET Award show headlines were dominated by Lil Nas X, there were a host of other talents on tap with headline worthy performances that got over looked. Jazmine Sullivan and Ari Lennox partnered for a live duet of their song “On It” featuring an introduction from Maxine Waters and Queen Latifah got a star stubbed tribute paying homage to her iconic career. Part of her tribute included fellow female rap icon Lil Kim. Kim has always been known for her fashion choices and this one was no different. Her look was so unique it garnered some feedback from various different people, including 50 Cent.

50 Cent and Lil Kim have collaborated in the past. The two New York City rappers teamed up early in 50 Cent’s career on Kim’s 2003 album La Bella Mafia. The track “Magic Stick” was a radio smash and fan favorite for the two MCs. The actually performed it together live at the 2003 BET Awards.
In the 2 decades since, 50 Cent has gone from strength to strength dominating music charts before jumping to the small screen as a successful television producer and actor. He keeps his social media exciting with his daily posts taking jabs at his fellow celebrities and their drama. Most notable targets in recent weeks have been Wendy Williams, Vivica A Fox and Bill Cosby.
Lil Kim has struggled to match the heights of her 90’s success despite continuing to have a cult following. Rivalries with Nicki Minaj and others have largely distracted people from her recent releases. The hip-hop icon has gone on to compete in Dancing With the Stars, star in her own reality series Girl’s Cruise and star a family with fellow rapper Mr. Papers.
Taking to the stage at the 2021 BET Awards, Kim paid tribute to friend Queen Latifah in a white outfit complete with a high fashion hair bang donning a Prada logo. The ambitious look caught 50 Cents attention, who compared his “Magic Stick” collaborator to an owl on social media. While her husband came to her defense, it was Kim who got the last laugh firing back at 50 in her own posts.

According to Lil Kim, she takes the joke in stride, but does appreciate her husband for coming to her defense. She says her family and friends were more upset than her. She reveals that she found the comparison funny and agrees that she looked like an owl. She also points out that 50 Cent is only poking fun at her because she famously turned down his advances, something she says she discusses in her upcoming book. She goes on to say she has a loving husband and 50 Cent has a beautiful girlfriend. “Let it go” she concludes, quoting her hit record of the same name with Keisha Cole and Missy Elliot.
