Mariah Carey’s been spilling all the tea as she prepares for her memoirs to be released on September 29th. The “elusive chanteuse” has been singing like a bird for rollout and even sat down with Oprah recently to discuss some of the heavier topics in her book. Of course, there’s gossip here too and one memeable nemesis apparently made the cut – J. Lo.
So far, Mariah’s already run through a list of her other celebrity entanglements that involve not only musicians but also superstar sports figures, like her relationships with Eminem and Derek Jeter.
Sitting down for a profile with Vulture, Mariah talked about how she hasn’t said nearly all that she could in her book – including about the fling with Eminem.
Eminem was worried that Mariah will talk about a few things that he’s sensitive about, including the details of their sex life. “Marshall is stressed out that Mariah is going to say s–t that he was bad in bed or a selfish lover because he has always been very insecure about that,” an insider said at the time. Mariah says that Em doesn’t have to worry.
“There’s some songs that I can sing in response to that, but I will not do it.” She also added, “If somebody or something didn’t pertain to the actual meaning of Mariah Carey, as is the title, then they aren’t in the book.”
Derek Jeter is definitely in the book – as she’s also admitted that he’s made it into more than one of her songs.
Mariah told Vulture that towards the end of her marriage to Mottola, she met baseball star Jeter at a dinner party and shortly afterwards, they began secretly texting. The former Yankee player dated Carey from 1996-1998 and it was one of his first high-profile relationships.
According to Mariah, her and Jeter shared a “clandestine kiss” finally, after all the texting, on the top of his apartment building one night.
“I can never forget that moment,” she said. “I mean, it’s not like it was some intensely deep, intellectually stimulating — again, it was a great moment, and it happened in a divine way because it helped me get past living there, in Sing Sing, under those rules and regulations.”
Being that they kissed on the roof, that’s what led to the song “The Roof.”
As for “My All,” the other song that Carey said was about Jeter? The lyrics of the song read, “I’d risk my life to feel your body next to mine,” and Carey admits that the song was about her risking her life to spend a night with Jeter.
With all the exciting bits and pieces being revealed in the press about Mariah’s book, one name that people have always wondered if Mariah might now, or address, is Jennifer Lopez. Though the two have both circled each other at the same events, television shows and more, there’s been a joke between them – or beef, some would say – in which Mariah claims that she doesn’t “know” J. Lo.
It seems as if that’s also made it into the book – indirectly, of course, given what Mariah said previously.
An early review reveals that Mariah hilariously “refuses to print Jennifer Lopez’s name”, instead referring to her as “another female entertainer on [Sony] (whom I don’t know)”.
