BET Awards 2021 had a lot to live up to. The struggling award show has seen ratings go down over the years, and with their first post-covid show expectations where high for them to deliver something spectacular. A handful of moments from last night went viral, from Lil Nas X to Cardi B. But one kiss that took place after the show has everyone talking, Megan Thee Stallion and Yung Miami shared a steamy tongue swap at a post show event that might have marked the official return of hot girl summer.
The Red Carpet had its fair share of highlights. Megan Thee Stallion (who won Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, Best Collaboration, Viewer’s Choice Award and Video of the Year) wore Jean Paul Gaultier with an insanely high thigh slit. Chloe Bailey of Chloe x Halle continues to distinguish herself from her younger sister in a fishnet Valentino outfit. She and younger sister Halle Bailey were nominated for Album of the Year, Best Group, the BET Her Award and Video of the Year. Lil Nas X wore an Andrea Grossi piece that featured a large dress with a subtle blue and white pattern.
Lil Nas X also wowed the crowd later in the evening with a performance reminiscent of award show glory days. The queer rapper paid homage to Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” music video during his Egyptian inspired performance of hit song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” At the end of the nostalgic performance Nas passionately kissed one of his male backup dancers, which won him a standing ovation from some members of the audience, including “Pose” star Mj Rodriguez.
Nas was not the only one swapping spit that evening. At a City Girls after party hosted by QC and Cîroc, Megan The Stallion and Yung Miami celebrated the wild night with a passionate kiss of their own. You can see the two rap stars cuddled close and sharing a laugh before suddenly engaging in a kiss in front of the cheering crowd. The two smile and laugh immediately afterwards.
