Grief brings many to make certain decisions in order to navigate through life moving forward, as everything changes after the death of a close loved one. In July, many were rocked by the news of the drowning death of Glee actress Naya Rivera while boating with her son, five-year-old Josey Hollis, on Lake Piru in California. Her passing has undoubtedly shifted the life of her young son who now has to face life without his mother, and the rest of her family and loved ones as they continue to cope with the loss.
Naya Rivera was co-parenting son Josey with her ex-husband, 37-year old actor, Ryan Dorsey. The two briefly dated in 2010 before splitting, and then reconnected in 2014 after her split with rapper Big Sean. On July 19, 2014, Dorsey’s birthday, the two married and shortly after, announced they were expecting. Josey Hollis would be born on September 17, 2015.
After two years of marriage the pair would call it quits, first separating in October of 2017. The divorce was finalized in June of 2018 and the pair shared joint custody of their child. However, due to her untimely death, sole custody was granted to Dorsey.
Rivera’s passing led Dorsey to post an emotional tribute days later to his ex-wife. “This is so unfair,” the actor begins his lengthy Instagram post under a picture of Rivera and their son. “I can’t believe this is life now. I don’t know if I’ll ever believe it. You were just here… We were just in the back swimming with Josey the day before. Life just isn’t fair.”
“I don’t know what to say,” he continued. “I’m thankful for our times and our journey that brought us together and gave us the sweetest and kindest smart little boy we could ever hope for.
It’s now being reported that the “Ray Donovan” actor hasn’t been raising their son alone, but rather has been getting help from her family. Page Six reports that Naya’s sister, 25-year-old model Nickayla Rivera specifically has been helping along with Ryan’s family as well as hers.
After her passing, the model also posted tributes dedicated to her sister on her social media. “Side by side or miles apart, our connection is infinite. Our bond is unbreakable,” she said. “We were complete opposites, yet simultaneously the same. The yin to my yang. I never knew that by losing you, I would find so much of you in myself.”
“I’ve never known a life without you in it & still can’t imagine it,” she continued. “My world is turned upside down. But through it all, everything we were, we are still. I’ll always look at you with the same eyes as I did when I was young. My shmaya, I’ll love you for eternity & miss you every second of my life.”
It’s being reported that Dorsey has moved in with the model as they are now caring for Josey together. Dorsey was seen moving out of his North Hills, CA home on Sept. 6th and has now moved into a three-bedroom rental with Rivera. The two have also been spotted shopping in Target while playfully holding hands and canoodling around town. A source reported to “TheDailyMail” that “they were fooling around and chatting the whole time. They’re obviously helping lift each other’s spirits.”
