NBA Youngboy Made J. Cole Wait 8 Hours In Studio To Record Song and Never Showed Up, Then Turned Down Lil Baby Feature, According To Akademiks

NBA Youngboy is one of the leading rappers in the game right now. Born Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, the Baton Rouge native had spawned over 10 mixtapes before getting signed by Atlantic Records in 2017. Since then they’ve positioned him as one of the go-to newcomers and leaders of the modern day hip-hop culture.

With that many mixtapes to his name it sounds funny that NBA Youngboy would have an issue getting songs done. He’s already shared big collaborations with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Juice Wrld, and the Migos, but it seems like some other big names were also lined up to work with him. Unfortunately NBA Youngboy just wasn’t in the mood.

“Crooked Smile” rapper J. Cole reported waiting 8hrs for NBA Youngboy to show up to a session. The Dreamville leader is one of the most respected rappers in the game, making a reputation over the years for selling astronomical amounts of records without any features. So it probably means a lot when he calls. However, Young Boy just couldn’t be bothered that day.

According to DJ Akademiks, NBA Youngboy told his team he didn’t really have the energy that day but they still went ahead and scheduled the session.

“J. Cole waited in the studio for eight hours for Young boy to show up,” said DJ Akademiks during a recent live stream. “Young boy didn’t show up. Facts. These are facts! Your favorite rapper, n***a. J. Cole? He sat in the studio for eight hours for a session with Youngboy. Youngboy never showed up.”

He continued “”Let me be fair to Youngboy. No disrespect to J. Cole, J. Cole’s just a rapper. Youngboy be going through sh*t. He’s living life, he’s going through sh*t. Youngboy said, ‘yo, my energy is not fit to be in the studio with that guy.’ It wasn’t about J. Cole. It was just that he, and personally what he was going through, wasn’t fit to be in that environment.”

Later on in the interview he confirmed that the same happened to Lil Baby, who was suppose to feature on a song for Young Boy.

“Youngboy told me when Lil Baby hit him up for a feature. I remember he told me, ‘Ak, I’m not doing music right now’. And I remember saying, ‘Youngboy, if you don’t do a song with Lil Baby…’ ‘Cause I gave him a whole list, I remember I sat in the car with him, I told him a whole list of n***as who he should do songs with. And I remember him telling me, ‘You know I can’t do a song with him’. He was telling me all type of beefs, I was like, I didn’t know the beef was that deep. I get it. But I’m telling you the facts. Youngboy, he don’t care about that. I remember telling him, this is a no brainer. And he was just like, ‘bro, I don’t care’.”
