Nick Cannon Believes Men Aren’t Meant To Be With One Woman, Says Monogamy Is Unnatural For Men: “We’re Here To Be Fruitful and Multiply”

Nick Cannon is many things: he’s a comedian, rapper, television and radio show host, and a father.  One thing he is not?  The multitalented Cannon is self admittedly not “faithful”.

In 2008, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey shocked the world when they announced they were getting married.  Three years later the “Masked Singer” host and the Grammy Award-Winner became parents to twins, Moroccan Scott and Monroe.  The couple would amicably split after six years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in 2016.

Last year, Cannon made headlines when he made the revelation that he doesn’t think he could ever be faithful again to another woman and does not believe in monogamy.  Perhaps we should have caught on to that when he said the line in his 2003 single “Gigolo”, No, I’m NOT tryna be ya man, pimp bones in my body/Rock them body-hotty, rock them, like ladi-dadi.  Speaking with rapper T.I. on his “ExpediTIously” podcast, “I think I’ll never be able to be with just one woman again. I did it in marriage, I was very faithful in my marriage. The reason why we split up had nothing to do with infidelity, nothing like that.”

He continued, ”Once I stepped away from that, I [realised] that construct is not designed for me.”  Cannon insisted that prior to marrying Carey, he never believed in marriage, but would have done anything that Carey asked him to. 

I gave it my all,” he added, “because even before that, I was like, ‘I don’t believe in marriage.’ But, s**t, it was Mariah Carey. Whatever she say, I’m with it. If she wanted to say we was going to the moon, I’m like, ‘Let’s go.’ If Imma marry somebody, Imma marry her.”  However, now that the marriage is over, he doesn’t see himself being with anyone in that capacity again. “I know I’ll never be in a relationship again,” he said. “I know I’ll never be married again… [I don’t] want to have to answer to anybody. [I want to] be by himself…forever.”

A year later, Cannon is doubling down on his claims against monogamy but is choosing to include all men in the process this time around.  He recently had a conversation with Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada on his radio show, where she discussed how she feels about relationships, while they also addressed monogamy.  

“Relationships, in general, I think you definitely have to get to know somebody for at least seven months,” she said. “I feel like the first three months are all full of you [getting] to know somebody… I feel like happy here is when you really get to know somebody that’s when you know put their guards on and are really open and comfortable having conversations.”

The “King Of The Dancehall” actor responded, “I ain’t got that much time Evelyn. I get married and divorce in the first half [of the year].”  Lozada explained that she prefers to be in relationships because she loves the structure.  “I love being with one person, and unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out because that person didn’t love being with one person.”

Cannon’s response, however, invited all men into his beliefs, which is not true.  “Men don’t subscribe to monogamy because they feel like it’s not natural in their DNA,” he claims. “It’s that hunting mentality, but it’s also like ‘yo if we suppose to be fruitful and multiply…. there’s not many creatures on earth that are monogamous.”

His claims prompted many on social media to comment that he needed to “speak for himself”, as there are many men who are living in healthy and prosperous monogamous relationships.  “That behavior is for boys Nick… grow tf up,” commented one user on social media, and another writes “Only men who belong to the streets make excuses.”

Since his divorce to Carey, he welcomed his second son, Golden “Sagon” Cannon, with model Brittany Bell.  He’s also been famously linked to Kim Kardashian-West, Christina Milian, and Amber Rose prior to his marriage to Carey.  Cannon did however claim in the same podcast with T.I. that if he were to ever get married again, it would be with one person.  

“If I was to do it again, it would be to her. It would be Mariah,” he said.
