Steve Harvey famously advised women that they need to “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” when it comes to maneuvering this wild world of relationships. Seemingly following his advice is his step-daughter, Lori Harvey, who has lately been on almost every rapper’s wish list (especially Meek Mill), is a dating legend. The names of her ex’s rival that of an amazing concert line-up. Not everybody is too pleased with her moves though, including Nick Cannon, who made some comments pertaining to one of her romances.
At the age of 18, Lori and her mother Marjorie Harvey, had a conversation while on her comedian step-father’s daytime talk show about being responsible in life and dating. In the resurfaced clip from 2015, Marjorie can be seen and heard getting ready to advise her daughter on relationship choices, who she claims “just started dating” that year.
“How are we going to handle this?” Marjorie questioned Lori before quickly suggesting that she include “No athletes” or “rappers” on the list. She continues with some motherly advice in which she hopes that her daughter will carry on throughout life.
“Don’t ever try to fit in when God has clearly created you to stand out,” her mother stated. “Always be a lady, and understand you are the prize. Don’t give yourself to anybody that is not going to be your husband. If they love you – if they really care about you, they’ll wait on you.” Lori assured the camera and viewers that her mother will be able to live at ease with her decisions. “When it comes to dating, my mom has nothing to worry about,” Lori insisted. “I got this.”
Too bad the Internet thinks that both Marjorie and Steve have something, if not everything, to worry about as it pertains to Lori. Already at the age of 24, Lori’s exes all seem to fall into the categories that her mother hoped that she would avoid: athletes and rappers.
Lori has reportedly dated men like Trey Songz, Justin Combs, Dutch soccer player Memphis Depay (whom she was engaged to in 2017 before splitting in 2018), Future, and Diddy (Justin Combs father… yeah. awkward.).
Many on social media have praised Harvey for her moves, calling them “aspirational” and a master at her craft. On the other hand there are those that are not in agreeance with Harvey’s serial dating. Seemingly included in that number is Nick Cannon, who shared his thoughts on Harvey’s dating Diddy while speaking with Vlad TV.
“She’s what, 23?” And he’s 49,” said Nick at the time of the interview, before being corrected on her actual age, “22 and 49. Aw, man!”
Cannon, known for marrying Mariah Carey who is 11-years his senior, went on to share that he would not have a problem with the age difference, but as a father, he would be “heartbroken” if that were to be his daughter. Earlier in the conversation, Nick touched on how it would be if the tables were turned and he was in the position to witness his young daughter date someone significantly older than her.
“In 40 something states, 16 is legal. I got a daughter,” Nick expressed. “If I see my 16-year-old daughter with any grown a** man, we got problems. I’m willing and ready to sit down and do 25 [years in prison] if there’s a grown a** man talking to my 16-year-old but that’s ‘legal’ in so many places.”
Elsewhere on the same subject, Nick acknowledges: “To each his own. But I would feel like I failed as a father if I’m sitting across from the table with a dude the same age as me who’s dating my daughter. But on the flip side, I want to say, Mariah and my mom is like the same age. They hang out. Mariah is ten years older than me and my mom had me when I was 16. As much as I would feel as a father my 22-year-old daughter is grown, she can do whatever she wants to do. Sixteen is different,” he added. “You’re still in my house. But 22 is an adult. I’ve never met Lori Harvey I don’t know how mature she is.”
While the opinions that Nick made were that of his own, that didn’t stop social media from criticizing him for speaking on their relationship, although some agreed with him. There were those that felt as though his comments were a bit “hypocritical” due to his relationship history, as well as the age difference with Mariah.
“I would be ecstatic if my daughter was dating a super-wealthy, creative, generous, and connected mogul,” one fan wrote. “When my daughter gets to the legal age for dating, it’s whoever she wants to date.. she grown so that wouldn’t even phase me. Nick, you sound a bit hypocritical.” Nick also began to trend on Twitter after the interview went public, prompting another fan to comment, “just saw what nick cannon is trending for and as many women he been with he doesn’t catch half as much slack as lori harvey does.”
