Did you know that Nicki Minaj had a younger sister? If you didn’t, you’re not alone, as Minaj has shared an intimate family video with her Instagram fans – and it’s a cute moment for the “Yikes” rapper, who’s been a lot more open with her family life since she became a wife.
Minaj has never let the world know that she has a younger sister and fans wondered why now? In the video she posted to Instagram, Onika pans between her sister and her father, debuting them in a tender moment that passes very quickly.
The 37-year-old Minaj has been on a tear in 2020, quickly re-emerging back into the public’s consciousness after once threatening to retire in 2019. After marrying an old sweetheart after her very public breakup with fellow celebrity Safaree, the newly monikered “Mrs. Petty” has taken to the music, red carpets and big events to reestablish her throne as the Queen.
With the caption reading “My Dad & lil sister Ming 🥰,” fans weighed in on the reveal of her family members with love and appreciation. Actress Skai Jackson commented “She’s so pretty,” while others remarked on their shared familial looks. “You and the sis twins 😍😍 👯♀️,” was the comment Milan Christopher from Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood left that many other agreed with.
While this sibling was largely unknown to many around the world the same cannot be said for Nicki Minaj’s brother, Jelani Maraj. Though she’s not involved in the case that sent him to jail, one cannot ignore the fact that he was just in the headlines recently.
Her brother Jelani was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for predatory sexual assault against a child. He was found guilty of these charges after a trial back in 2017. The 11-year-old child that he raped repeatedly was his stepdaughter at the time.
He was also sentenced to 364 days in prison for endangering the welfare of a child in addition to the other charges. Though Minaj hasn’t really said too much about her brother’s case recently, he’s appeared in her lyrics before as an inspiration – but doubt he will be in any family portraits any time soon.
