‘Nobody Cares About Your Music’: Wendy Williams Drags Ashanti, Calls Her A Fledgling Artist At Best

Ashanti has had a series of unfortunate events happen to her as 2020 drew to a close.  The year was supposed to end on a high note with her and Keyshia Cole participating in an anticipated Verzuz battle on December 12 of last year, but the event ended up being postponed due to Ashanti catching Covid-19 sadly.

“Hey y’all I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19,” the “Say Less” singer announced on Instagram hours before it was scheduled to begin. “I’m ok and not in any pain. I’m actually down to do the verzuz from my house… we’re trying to figure it all out!!!” The date was then rescheduled for January 9th, which unfortunately was rescheduled again thanks to rising cases of the coronavirus.

Fans were yet again disappointed that their Saturday night plans were ruined.  Her opponent Keyshia issued an apology via Instagram.  “I’m so sorry the [Verzuz] event didn’t happen! I want you guys to kno, I really think [Apple Music] didn’t want to put staff/Production in danger along with [Ashanti] and myself,” the “Should’ve Cheated” singer proclaimed. “Due to the recent spike with the Corona virus …. I kno you all had get togethers and parties planned in states that were open. I’m so sorry! I love you guys, and thank you for the continued love and support over all these years!!! I BEEN READY! And I STAY READY!!!”

With the news of the Verzuz battle’s once again postponing and no future date scheduled, fans have been showing signs that they simply are just over it at this point. “This is the second time the Ashanti vs. Keyshia Cole battle got canceled. I’m over it now. F— it,” wrote one social media user.

Some fans are feeling that despite Ashanti contracting the virus the first time, she may be the reason for the cancellation yet again.  “If Ashanti scared to battle Keyshia, just say that,” shared one user.  Another feels Keyshia should be apologized to. “At this point f— #Verzuz Ashanti reckless a– got COVID thinking she Carmen Sandiego traveling all over the world, y’all give us a new date then one day before the show you tell us you not doing it now? FOH Keyshia Cole deserves an apology because she was ready. Forget it now.”

Fans have been resurfacing old content surrounding the artists, one, in particular, a moment when day-time talk show host Wendy Williams said some not-so-kind words towards Ashanti and her music career.

“You’re forty-something years old at this point, nobody cares about your music,” she says in the clip.  Perhaps fans are echoing the same sentiments regarding the double cancellation.  Williams was speaking in her Hot Topics segment on a story surrounding an Ashanti appearance on Everyday Struggle where she and then co-host Joe Budden got into an intense debate about her clothing choices during Ashanti’s live performances.

She continued, “I call you an exotic dancer…you’ve got a beautiful body and you’re using it to make your bones, and that is the fact, jack.”
