Cardi B and Normani are gearing up to serve what looks like a fierce and fiery single judging by the looks of their latest single cover. It’s been almost two years since the release of her debut solo single “Motivation” and since then, Normani has been seemingly back in the studio putting the finishing touches on her debut. On Friday, Normani is looking to run right back to the top of the charts with her brand new single that she’s enlisted the help of Cardi B and fans are too ready to take a walk on the “Wild Side”.
Normani has come a long way from her Fifth Harmony days. She’s put in the work and proved that she’s both worthy and “Worth It” within the group, and now that they have been on an indefinite hiatus, she’s not trying to play games with her solo debut.
In 2018, she released her collaborative EP with Calvin Harris, Normani x Calvin Harris, featuring the two singles “Checklist” featuring WizKid and “Slow Down”. Next came her hit collaboration “Love Lies” with singer Khalid, the lead single from the Love, Simon motion picture soundtrack. The single would rise to the top ten on the Billboard Charts, and garnered intense accolades and fanfare.
This would be followed up by another chart-topper and collaboration, this time with singer Sam Smith. “Dancing With A Stranger” reached number 1 in multiple countries, and number 7 in the United States. The single went on to win top honors at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, the BMI Awards, and ASCAP awards. Another single, “Waves” featuring 6LACK, also impacted streaming services.
Normani’s looks and visuals have had fans wondering what the future looks like for the young star. Finally, on August 16, 2019, Normani released the single “Motivation” which was co-written with Ariana Grande. Both the song and its choreography-filled visual were met with critical acclaim, and fans began to await the follow-up or an announcement on the album. Alas, no news would come about any upcoming projects for a long time.
“Motivation” received positive feedback from her peers in the entertainment industry, including from Lizzo, Kelly Clarkson, and Cardi B. The latter shared a post from the music video and captioned it “Lawd”, which excited Normani as she has been known to be a major fan of the Bronx rapper.
Normani commented, “I just screamedddddd. what is liiiiiiife. I’m overwhelmed. feeling beyond blessed. thank you so much,” underneath Cardi’s post. In another comment she placed multiple exclamation marks, solidifying her excitement. Even more excited fans started to add their wishes for the pair to collaborate after Cardi shared the clip.
“She’s so dope! Can you please get her on a hook for the new album?” asked a fan. Another commented, “So important to support Normani she is talented and you know how the industry is with chocolate women! BRAVO CARDI!”
Well, fans would get their wishes granted, somewhat, when in the summer of 2020 Normani was seen making a special cameo appearance in the music video for Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s megasmash record, “WAP.” Joining others like Latto, Sukihana, Rosalia, and Kylie Jenner, Normani was seen tossing up some awesome dance moves during the video. Cardi also posted a behind-the-scenes video showing Normani serving while filming for the video. with Cardi encouraging her in the background.

An absolute far cry from her time in Fifth Harmony, Normani proved to be all grown up in a much sexier image. Speaking with Teen Vogue, she spoke about her appearance in Cardi’s video. “The ‘WAP’ video I was really, really excited to be a part of,” said the singer. “Just because I feel like we’re in a time in music where women — and Black women — are really on top, which is something I feel like we haven’t seen in a very, very long time. Where I come from, we were all about female empowerment. The fact that I could be a part of such a special moment embracing our sexuality, in which I definitely think there’s a double standard, [was exciting] to be a part of it.”
She added, “Representation like I always say, is key. To be a young woman that looks like [me] I just feel like [being a positive example] is a part of my legacy. It’s me wanting to create better opportunities for us, and also just for people who think that they got us figured out. [I want to show that] we are multifaceted and capable of much more than we get credit for, in the music industry and also in society. I feel like I have a duty.”
Well fans who were awaiting a musical collaboration with Normani and Cardi B can now rest easy as this weekend, the pair will finally be taking us on a walk on the “Wild Side”, via their new single. This is her first single since Motivation and her feature on the Megan Thee Stallion led “Diamonds” from the Birds of Prey original motion picture soundtrack. Cardi’s last release was her feature on the Migos single “Type Ish”.
On the steamy single cover art, both Normani and Cardi are in the nude with only their hair covering their unmentionables. Cardi also took to her Instagram Stories to share her excitement for the release of the song. “I feel like this is Normani’s big comeback and I want you guys to treat it like it’s her birthday,” she said. “This song and everything is amazing and I am so proud of her. I am just the support team!”
The “Wild Side” single will be available on all streaming platforms on Friday, July 16th at midnight, 9 pm PST. Are you here for their collaboration?
