Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey tied the knot with her longtime friend Mike Hill in Acworth, Georgia in a beautiful ceremony that was attended by practically every Black Housewives star, ever. Bailey stunned in a dress that featured cutouts along the length of the dress, to great acclaim. Now, she’s stunned her ex, Peter Thomas, with a lawsuit.
The beginning of her marriage seems off to a good start and the old couple seemed to be on good terms, according to a surprised Thomas when news broke of the lawsuit.
While speaking about their marriage with Bravo host Andy Cohen, he asked Bailey if money was a “big factor” of the reasons that they got a divorce.
“I don’t think there’s ever just one reason,” said Bailey during the most recent season’s cast reunion. “It was very scary when we started having issues and I just felt like over time I started to be very resentful towards him. Even when we started to get back on track, it’s like I couldn’t stop being mad at him for things that didn’t work out when that wasn’t the plan.”
Bailey continued, “I don’t do well in stressful situations. I do not, and I just felt like it was just too many stressful situations. It just seemed like every time we got over one hurdle it’d be something else. I didn’t know how to be married. I did the best I could do.”
One of those stressful situations is the reason that Bailey has filed a lawsuit against Thomas, to the tune of trying to recover $170,000 – which Thomas says that they already had an agreed upon payment for. It’s apparently for a business deal that the then couple were making to open another Bar One restaurant.
Thomas has spoken out against the lawsuit and feels as if Bailey is continuing to endanger his reputation – one which he’s already paid money to rehab after previous charges of check fraud emerged and Thomas was put into jail over them. Vindicated, he’s still suffered in deals since because of the nature of their celebrity.
“And because I was on TV, that means everybody picked up on that from TMZ to every local station picked up on that and ran with it because it seemed like I was doing some kind of check fraud, which I’ve never done anything like that in my life,” he told Straight from the A blogger Michelle Brown in an exclusive interview.
“It was difficult to get that off. You gotta do so many positive stories, just to suppress that story.”
He’s surprised overall that Bailey didn’t pick up the phone and call him, unaware that she felt unable to talk to him. Mostly, he’s disappointed in the fact that despite them being on good terms, she would not talk to him first and run to the courts – knowing how it would make him look image-wise.
“When you file a lawsuit like that, that’s another story that’s there that everybody wants to run with. It’s like a mugshot that’s out there that now I have to pay thousands of dollars just to suppress that and move on with my life. So, I was hurt when she did that.”
