R&B singer Erkyah Badu is often looked at by many as a source of wisdom and knowledge. The mysterious songbird deals in majestic fashion, and for over 2 decades has used her eccentric branding to convince fans that she understands things a little better than we do. However Badu is 100% human, and in recent years has proven to fans that she is just as capable of making mistakes as we are. Most recently she had to issue an apology to Barak and Michelle Obama after tastelessly posting video from a private event to social media.
A news article based in New Zealand shared that teenage female students had to wear knee length skirts so as not to “distract” their male counterparts and male teachers. According to the assistant principal, the reason for this is to “keep our girls safe, stop boys from getting ideas and create a good work environment for male staff.” Badu caught wind of this story and decided to tweet in support of it to the dismay of her fans.
“There was an article ruling that high school girls lower their skirts so male teachers are not distracted,” said Badu. “I agreed because I am aware that we live in a sex I-driven society.”
She went on , “It is everyone’s, male and female’s, responsibility to protect young ladies. One way to protect youth is to remind them we are all sexual in nature and as they grow and develop it is natural to attract men. It is not them who is doing anything wrong by being beautiful and attractive, but with such imbalance in our society it is smart to be aware and awake.”
I agree.We are sexual beings .

We should consider everyone.
Young girls are attractive. Some males are distracted. https://t.co/q6N7bpxO0Z
In a separate instance of Badu rubbing people the wrong way, she decided to do a speech about forgiveness while performing in R. Kelly’s hometown following his initial arrest in 2019. “I dunno how everybody else feel about it but I’m putting up a prayer right now for R. I hope he sees the light of day if he done all those things that we’ve seen on TV and heard those ladies talk about. I hope he sees the light of day and comes forward.” She was met with boos from the crowd.
Auntie @fatbellybella we understand your point of view and you’re not raising monsters. Your belief is simple love, unconditional love. It’s not meant to be perceived as you taking his side. I think that’s the misconception, you’re obviously not condoning his behavior. pic.twitter.com/6XWGIf4Ku4

Badu seems to be learning her lesson, and after some fans called her out for posting video of Barak and Michelle from their private event, she decided to address it directly before it go out of hand. “Mr. And Mrs. Obama , Please forgive me 4 being the “terrible guest “ at such a sacred event for your family. I was so inconsiderate, Thank you for all your love. What an example of ‘how NOT ‘ to be …… erica”. See her apology below.
