Cardi B, real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, and Offset (real name Kiari Cephus) of the rap supergroup Migos met and began to publicly date in 2017.  The pair first collaborated on her song “Lick”, which appeared on her 2017 mixtape “Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol. 2”.  They would later collaborate again on her album “Invasion of Privacy” on the song “Drip” which featured Migos, as well as “Clout” on Offset’s album entitled “Father of 4”. She spoke to “The Fader” when the murmurings of their budding relationship began and had this to say about getting to know her future husband.

“It’s been a blessing, me meeting him and meeting his friends,” she says to the publication.  “I see how hard they work. And that motivated me to work even harder, and I see how good things are going for them and how popping it is to be number one. And I’m like, I want that. A lot of people just see they jewelry and they money, but I don’t think a lot of people see how hard they work for that sh*t every single day.”

On October 27th of that year, during Philly radio station Power 99’s Powerhouse concert, Offset proposed to Cardi B.  Rumors started to swirl shortly thereafter that Cardi was with child.  This would be proven true when the rapper performed on Saturday Night Live in April 2018, revealing her pregnancy to the public. Although the couple was publicly engaged the year before, a marriage license was unearthed by TMZ, proving that the couple had actually secretly wed in September of 2017.

Hours after the news of the marriage emerged, Cardi took to Twitter to address it, confirming the rumors in a statement she wrote.  The tweet explained why she chose to name her debut album “Invasion of Privacy”, stating: “There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself. Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other.”

The two have not faced the easiest road in their marriage, as they have been riddled with scandals, allegations of cheating, and more.  She announced on Instagram in December 2018 that the pair had broken up.  Although the marriage was on the path to divorce, the two reunited and have since been doing their best to keep it and their family together.
