Drake has labeled himself the “Certified Lover Boy” so much so his next album, reportedly due in April, is named just that. Ahead of the album’s release could it be that the Toronto rapper isn’t showing love to one of his exes? Instagram seems to think so.
Although it was never made official in public, there was a time where Drake and Serena Williams were rumored to be romantically linked. Speculations began when photos surfaced in 2011 where Drake was shown in the stands watching and cheering Williams on as she competed in tennis matches on multiple occasions. Possibly shooting his shot, he then turned the heat up when he sent out a tweet to Serena. “[Serena Williams] I cannot wait to put it on you and make you sweat……….during our match this weekend,” he said.

A few years would go by and the rumors would die down. Summer of 2015, those rumors would catch fire once again when a video clip of Drake and Serena sharing smiles between one another at a Wimbledon match went viral. The two seemed to try their best to maintain a low profile, however, TMZ cameras obtained photos of the two in what looks like a make-out session while dining at a Cincinnati restaurant.

The next month, Drake was seen seated next to Anna Wintour during Serena Williams’ New York Fashion Week HSN Signature Statement runway show. Drake’s music provided the soundtrack as the models walked the runway in Williams’ fashions. The rapper also name drops her in his track “Worst Behavior”. “I’m with my whole set/Tennis matches at the crib/ I swear I could beat Serena when she playin’ with her left,” he raps.
In a 2019 interview, Drake admitted that his infamous Meek Mill diss track “Back 2 Back” wouldn’t have happened had it not been for Serena. “I was with Serena at the time. And we had been talking a lot about her and [Maria] Sharapova going back and forth over the years,” he shared during an interview with Rap Radar podcast. “And she had made this comment to me, and she was like, ‘Well, look, if you’re going to go again, you know … you gotta finish it. She’s a top competitor. So, she’s like ‘You gotta finish. I’m talking like, done, over. And it’s going to be something that everyone he’s with has to hear. You can’t do some s**t that’s for the moment and then goes away.’ She kinda put this battery in my back, funny enough,”
Drake says Serena Williams is the one that said if he was gonna drop a second Meek Mill diss (“Back To Back”), he had to “finish it.”

While it is unknown exactly when the two decided to split, Serena did make an attempt with reporters to let them know that she and the “Worst Behavior” were not in a relationship. “We’ve been friends for, like, so many years,” Williams responded to an Associated Press reporter after a match while rolling her eyes. “Just like family.”
Serena has since moved on having married Alexis Ohanian in November of 2017. While many thought that all is well between the two, maybe it’s not the case. An Instagram post that highlighted an article showing Williams being defeated by Naomi Osaka at the recent Australian Open, Drake’s Instagram handle can be seen as one of those that liked the post.
