The #BussItChallenge has taken a grip on the Internet and hasn’t slowed down since it’s started. Thanks to Dallas rapper Erica Banks’s single “Bussit”, people of all shapes, sizes, and races are racing to social media to show off their various transformative looks. Some comedic, and some serious, either way, it has all been entertaining.
The 1501 Entertainment signee released what would now be the soundtrack to the #BussItChallenge back in May of 2020. But as many TikTok challenges go, sometimes it takes some patience before a song catches on to the platform and begins its takeover.
The challenge begins with the familiar sounds of Nelly’s 2002 Neptunes produced smash hit “Hot in Herre”, before thumping 808s usher in Banks’s command to “Buss It”, prompting participants in the visual to drop low to the ground and give their best move. In recent weeks, social media has now seen celebrities join in on the fun to keep the trend going.
Fans have been graced with visuals from people like Joseline Hernandez, Reginae Carter, Gabrielle Union, and even Tracee Ellis Ross hopping in on the fun. R&B singer Monica also joined the viral trend with her version going viral for other reasons, however, when one of her three children decided to interrupt her efforts. “Buss What?” interjects the 12-year-old before adding, “You somebody mama. You ain’t bussing nothing.”
Also surprisingly jumping in to show that anybody, no matter the age, can get in and fit in, was FoxSoul’s Tamron Hall. “#Bussitchallenge my [Tamron Hall Show] team thought I wouldn’t. Well Moses mama wasn’t always a mama,” she captions her video. She’s seen walking around in her closet looking at her many pairs of shoes while in a hoodie and sweatpants. She then “looks back at it” to see if her butt is indeed getting big, before dropping it low and showing that “mama’s still got it”.
Another celebrity, and new mom, who’s video is going viral now is Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. It hasn’t been a year yet since she has given birth but the “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching” rapper’s participation in the viral sensation is showing a snapback like no other. Azalea also begins her video in some sweats before transforming into something more “appropriate” for the challenge.
Many fans criticized Azalea, but she also received positive reactions to her video as they praised the rapper’s body as well. Her video also garnered praise from the artist herself, who also became excited that Azalea participated. “OMG Iggyyyy,” tweeted Banks along with a retweet of Azalea’s video.
OMG Iggyyyy @IGGYAZALEA 😫😫😫❤️❤️ https://t.co/j3dTtN88R4
