Lil Nas X has the biggest song in the world for a second time, as “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” is currently the number 1 song in several countries despite streaming platforms trying to take it down. The 22 year old has a lot to celebrate as not only is the song and its accompanied video racking up astonishing numbers, but its also pushing for some serious conversations thanks to its theme. Nas may be on his way to becoming one of the richest musicians in the world, however it seems like money can’t fix everything. Its been reveal that Lil Nas X mother is currently battling homelessness in Atlanta and possibly not receiving help from her song.
Lil Nas x was born Montero Lamar Hill on April 9, 1999. He was raised in Georgia by his mother and grandmother initially, before moving to Austell, Georgia with his father who is a gospel singer. Nas recalls his childhood being lonely with him spending a lot of time online.
His public persona has been so focused on his music and coming out that people seldom seem to ask about the young star’s history. The Source Magazine reported that the star opened up in January a bit about his initial success and fears. Noting that stars like Nipsey Hussel and Juice Wrld’s passings overlapped with his initial rise and how those passing impacted him.
“You know, drugs and murders. And my grandmother passing [in 2018]— she was the first person close to me who passed. It was devastating. And it made me a hypochondriac: I’d wake up, heart racing. It was scary.” He began heavily smoking to cope with the passing but felt more connected to the universe.
“I never really talk about my mom. She’s an addict so we don’t have the closest relationship,” he said. “Even trying to get her better — things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love… The biggest surprise of becoming globally famous? On the outside, everybody loves you — but on the inside, everything [feels] the same.”
Unfortunately that appears to be far too true, as a fan recently posted a clip of what is believed to be Lil Nas X mother begging for cash in Atlanta. “This is @lilnasx mom holding a feed me sign” the caption said.
The Neighborhood Talk managed to repost the video, noting in their caption that Nas has tried to help his mom in the past and even paid for rehab, but it didn’t go well. Some people took to twitter to criticize him.
People weird as hell making video of lil nas x mom on the corner like that. like it’s not funny and it’s not the groundbreaking news y’all think it is. like his mom is an addict, and how he deal with that isn’t our business
