Snoop Dogg is celebrating the International Smoking Holiday aka 420 the best way he knows how, with new music and some weed related stories. The West Coast legend is as known for his affiliation to cannabis as he is his music. Today he unleashed his 18th studio album, From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites, and in it he dropped some interesting bars about an interaction with our forever president Barak Obama.
Obama has a very well documented relationship with weed. While growing up in Hawaii, he was part of what he called in his memoirs, The Choon Gang. The Gang was a group of teens that Obama hung out with, the team was named Choon because of their love for Pakalolo, Hawaiian slang for cannabis. Co-host of the podcast ‘Great Moments in Weed History with Abdullah and Bean’ David Bienenstock breaks down the long and complicated love affair between Obama and cannabis in a Now This video.
Barak Obama is referred to by many cannabis enthusiast as “America’s First Weed President”. That is because when he got in office there were 0 states with legalized marijuana law and 8 by the time he stepped down in 2016.
In interviews he’s talked candidly about using it as a kid. “When I was a kid, I inhaled, frequently. That was the point.”
While he didn’t publicly campaign for legalization during his time in the White House, he has gone on record to say that he feels punishments for possession are too harsh and that he feels marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol.
Well with that type of history, it wouldn’t be a full surprise to think that maybe Obama shared a smoke with Snoop Dogg? On the track “Gang Signs” featuring Mozzy off Snoop’s new album he says “Still sipping gin and juice while I’m smoking marijuana/I bet you never blew with Obama/Crip walking with my homegirl Martha/While I’m passing joints to Madonna.”
Snoop claims to have smoked in the White House before but did not clarify if it was with the president. During a sit down with Jimmy Kimmel he told the late night hosts the story.
“Have you ever smoked at the White House?” to which Snoop answered, “In the bathroom. Not in the White House — but in the bathroom. Because I said, ‘May I use the bathroom for a second?’ And they said, ‘What are you going to do? No. 1 or No. 2?’ I said, ‘No. 2.’”
When Kimmel asked who “they” was, Snoop said, “The CIA. Or the FBI. The alphabet boys. So I said, ‘Look, when I do the No. 2, I usually, you know, have a cigarette or I light something to get the aroma right.’ They said, ‘You know what? You can light a piece of napkin.’ I said, “I’ll do that.” And the napkin was this [pointed to blunt].”
