Do women hate to hear when their husbands are extremely honest? That may be the case, but honesty is the best and only way for people to thrive and for a relationship to be healthy. T.I. and Tiny’s relationship and marriage have been plagued with all types of rumors and speculations of infidelity for years, which has resulted in many break-ups for the two. The couple seems to be in a great place currently, but there was a time when marriage just didn’t seem to be in the cards for either, anymore.
Happier times became a thing of the past at one point or the couple when Tameka “Tiny” Harris decided she had had enough and filed for divorce after six years of marriage from her rapper husband. This, months after a video surfaced showing her dancing with boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. at Mariah Carey’s Halloween party.
After the divorce filing was announced, pictures of the Grand Hustle CEO began to surface with Instagram model Bernice Burgos. Fans began to alert Harris that her soon to be ex may be cozying up in a romantic way with Burgos and her response, calling Burgos a “pass around b*tch”, started a war of words on social media between the two.
Things took a turn for the worst when Burgos posted a video of herself and a friend singing along to Xscape’s “Just Kickin’ It”, specifically Kandi’s verse where she sings “Every man wants a woman…where him and her can just go hang…” Tiny took offense to this and chose to respond directly. “Funny…@realberniceburgos that Man U speaking of was laid up with his wife last night,” Tiny commented. “So quit being petty cause clearly u getting lied too if u thinking anything different. Hope u didn’t take him serious! Now keep sanging my sh*t! U know u slick a fan anyway.”
Burgos at first seemed as though she would not carry the debacle further publicly, saying she was “not about to sit here and argue about” another man, and offered to dm her number to Harris if she had anything else to say. However, she quickly shifted her tone when she fired off another petty post toward Tiny. “[Tiny] Okay you REALLY the grown-up here HONESTLY I wasn’t even being funny u know what’s petty? Me singing the biggie smalls verse that would’ve been really petty,” she wrote. “Let me start off by saying you not even the old tiny from Xscape you a whole new person. Fan? You been following me for some time now hun. I wanted to keep all of this off the internet because this really isn’t me at all but you CLEARLY let this pretty face fool you. Where I’m from? We don’t type we really about that. & if you laid up with him then why you so pressed about me…”
With all that was happening between the two and with Harris’s marriage to T.I. in shambles, the rapper appeared on Angie Martinez’s radio show where he discussed the matter. As it pertained to the state of their marriage, T.I. claimed they were in a good place. “There is no beef. Like, we’re good. We’re straight,” he told Martinez. “Everybody else got the problem. We see each other. We speak. We talk. We spend time together. We’re good. That’s still one of the best friends in the world that I’ve ever had. I can be a better best friend than a husband.”
Martinez interjected, saying that no woman wants to hear that, but Tip further explained his stance. He said the only thing that’s holding him back from accomplishing all that he wanted to, was marriage.
“It’s just the truth. Ultimately, man, I’m on a mission,” he expressed. “I’m striving to take my family, its name, and our legacy as far and high as it can possibly go. And in my life, there will be two different things. There will be people, places, and things that help me get there. And there will be people, places, and things that distract and deter me from getting there. It seems to me that marriage and what marriage means and what marriage does–it’s just one of those things that’s going to distract and deter me. And that could be selfish, but ultimately,
“I’m the patriarch of this family,” he added, “and it’s my responsibility to take us onward and upward. And that’s what I intend to do. I just have a purpose and I don’t always have the time to do the thoughtful, considerate things that a husband should do. Me knowing that about myself–knowing I’m not going to deter myself from my plan. I’m going to move. And whoever move with me, they coming with me. And whoever don’t move, I’ll be back.”
The rapper didn’t stop there, also addressing the rumors of him and Burgos having more than a friendship. “And stop putting me in relationships with people. I’m not in a relationship with nobody,” he said. “I’m in a relationship with me and my mission.”
