2020 just hasn’t been good to Tekashi 6ix9ine it seems. While things have been pretty (unusually) quiet for him in recent weeks, the “Trollz” rapper has once again come back into news headlines and this time for an apparent overdose.
The rainbow-haired rapper released the “Dummy Boy” follow-up album, “TattleTales”, on September 4th. Although 6ix9ine is consistently in the news for his controversial behavior and with his singles pulling in decent first week numbers, the same wouldn’t be said for his album. TattleTales fosters guest appearances from the likes of superstars Nicki Minaj (Trollz) and Akon (Locked Up Pt. 2), however, the appearances weren’t enough to help boost the album to the coveted #1 spot on Billboard. The album, originally forecasted to hit sales of around 150,000 units, ended up debuting at #4, selling 53,000 album-equivalent units, with 32,000 of those being physical sales that were coupled with merchandise bundles, and sales would continue to decline.
Before disappearing from social media and news headlines, 6ixnine filmed himself on the streets of NYC once again, but this time handing out copies of his album for free to anyone who would indulge him. “One way or another ima force ya to listen to this! Since ya ain’t want to buy it,” he captioned the video where he’s heard telling a passerby “make sure you listen to it.” In another video, he’s seen ripping off posters meant as promotional material for his album’s release as a woman seemingly consoles him, and placing the bits of paper in the garbage, while he captions it “My mom still thinks im a winner”, in regards to the news of his album sales.
Many began to wonder where the rapper disappeared to after the September 11th upload to his social media. Now fans may have a reason as news has broken that the rapper was admitted to a Florida hospital on Tuesday due to an overdose from a cocktail of diet pills and caffeine. According to reports from The Shade Room, Tekashi took two Hydroxycut pills (instead of the recommended dosage of one) and a cup of McDonald’s coffee, which “increased his heart rate and caused him to sweat excessively.”
The rapper is reportedly taking the pills in attempts to lose the weight he gained since his prison release. It’s being reported that he was 200 pounds following the release, but has since lost 25 pounds. He’s confirmed to TSR however that the drugs were not due to drug use, as he’s not allowed to use drugs due to his being on probation, and if he does he could be sent back to prison.
Back in 2019, his former tour DJ interviewed with Complex where he stated the rapper had a strict diet and workout regimen and often stressed about his weight. “…He had gained a lot of weight. I don’t know. I guess he just … He’s a kid,” the DJ said. “He’s a young kid. He just got a lot of money overnight, so he’s probably going out and eating everything, dogging everything. So on tour I guess, I don’t know who told him he was fat. He was very concerned about losing weight, so literally he would eat salads all day and drink water and a lot of lime. A lot of lime … He wouldn’t really eat much. He would eat probably a salad for breakfast and then snack on fruits throughout the day and be in the gym.”
TSR reports that the rapper is now home and “doing fine”, and also went on his daily jog. He’s reportedly not planning on returning to social media until he reaches his goal weight.
