Former Instagram model Maliah Michel is “back and hittin’ ’em hard” in a very different and much bigger way. The self-proclaimed “love of your life” was once the apple of many’s eyes, including various celebrities. At one point, Michel was the rumored girlfriend to Drake. Michel was first introduced in the mainstream after being cast in the Canadian rapper’s video for his 2010 hit single “Find Your Love”. Before this, she initially had dreams of acting, but eventually fell into stripping at various clubs in the Southern California area before the age of twenty. Soon enough, she would end up being cast in videos for artists like Ying Yang Twins and Mike Jones. Michel would later model for and become the cover girl on magazines like King and Smooth.
Michel’s chance encounter with Drake would occur while she was employed at a Houston strip club called Dreams. According to Michel’s interview with Vibe in 2010, the two did not communicate that night, but shortly after meeting she was told that she was name-dropped in his song “Miss Me” which she says left her “flattered.” The next thing she knew, she was being asked to be in his then-upcoming music video, which was to be shot in Jamaica.
“A friend of his Jazz Prince, J.Prince’s son, called me and told me that his artist wanted me to come to Jamaica to shoot this video. At the time I didn’t know it was Drake, so I was like ‘Oh by the way, can you tell Drake thanks for the shout-out?’ she explained to Vibe. “And right after that, he told me he called me back. So later on that night, Drake called me directly and told me that he was the one shooting the video and how he wanted me for the lead part. I got to admit I was really geeked and could barely talk.
During the interview, she acknowledged the chemistry between the two but insisted that they were just “very close friends” and stated that it was all the information that the general public needed to know. Michel insisted that prior to the video being shot, they had not even kissed.
“It was so funny because when we were shooting the beach scene. The director, Anthony Mandler, was like ‘Come on, come on! You got to make me feel this!’ And we had never kissed or anything before, so I just went for it and kissed him! And we started kissing for real and everybody just started cheering.”
Their relationship would eventually fizzle out, and both parties moved on with their lives. However, things would heat up when during his annual Houston Appreciation Week in 2017 he attempted to “retire” her as a stripper. This gesture, however, brought fire out of Michel, who took to social media and blasted the rapper in a string of angered tweets.
“I have to say something and it’s from the bottom of my heart,” she began her rant. “Do you know how good it feels to be able to walk in The club with girls 10 years plus younger than me and still be that b***h? Y’all and say what you want or think what you want. But I call that blessed. And I was overweight. So this can be a career if you take care of yourself. Pay taxes and save your money.”
She then revealed that Drake had been shaming her for being a stripper unbeknownst to everyone else. “Y’all don’t know that n***a been trying to make me stop dancing. Always putting me down about it. Always telling me I’m not better than anyone else in the club selling a** instead of dancing. But n***a can’t stay out the club. Y’all just don’t know. My only regret is ever trying to explain how much I love dancing. And thinking so highly of him. That I let his opinion of me mold my opinion of myself.”
Michel added, “I remember pleading with him to understand. I said Beyoncé wears the same kind of stuff I wear. This n***a got mad and told me not to compare myself to Beyoncé. B***h wha?! Don’t you ever tell me not to compare myself to Beyoncé! I’m a woman that’s what we do!! No matter how light I tried to make things. Just always mean and hurtful. But whatever I’m done.” Michel also posted on her Instagram that no other person could retire her from dancing except for herself.
Unsure if she is still dancing now, Michel’s social media is now dedicated to posts on spirituality and tarot readings, and she currently does have an OnlyFans page. Fans have noticed, however, a recent sighting of her shows her bigger than normal. According to Michel, she’s now “fat”, but she seems to be loving it.
Sources have told MTO News that Michel has “gained 100 lbs”, but she has not confirmed the report. Taking to her Instagram page, Michel shares a video clip of her dancing in a racy outfit that definitely highlights her weight gain. “Lol no I’m not pregnant just fat,” Michel captioned the video. “But I got a cute face. It’s raining Men. I want the ladies to see how the silly starts to get me in my bag gradually it’s about letting go and having fun JOY.”
Her supporters could be found in the comment section cheering her on for embracing her weight and showcasing body positivity. “You say just fat lol….. no just human 😍😍🔥🔥 we fluctuate naturally, let it flow beautiful,” wrote one user. Another stated, “Girl you are NOT FAT!! That’s a real body on a real woman they better stop.. we not all made on a surgeons table .. your perfect.”
