Before R&B singer Brandy became a world-renowned sensation, part of her journey included singing in the background. The “Top Of The World” singer was once a background singer for early 90s R&B boy band “Immature” and went on tour with the group as well. Despite her role, Brandy established friendships with group members Marques “Batman” Houston, Jerome “Romeo” Jones, and Kelton “LDB” Kessee.
While on tour, it’s not lost on some artists, their supportive players, and their crew members to indulge in “off-book” activities. Also, often tour members will play pranks on one another in jest and in attempts to keep spirits light while on the road. If anything, it makes for a great story.
Marques Houston shared a tour moment during a Vibe interview where both he and Brandy decided they would play a prank on someone they knew. However, Houston describes it as a “really weird story” and what he says would definitely be a hard memory for anybody to shake. The two young singers made a decision that night that nearly cost them their lives!
“This is actually a really weird story. Brandy Norwood and I always bring this up whenever we see each other—we say we almost died together,” Houston explained. “It was our old office building and there was a guy who had a back office. He was working real late one night, and we scared him. We kept sneaking around to the window and tapping on the back and he actually came out with a gun and had he not seen it was us, we probably would have gotten shot! But that’s one of the sneakiest or most mischievous things I’ve done when I was young.”
Houston’s story comes on the heels of another story that involves Brandy and another Immature group member. Fans were shocked to hear that the longtime rumors of Brandy being the real reason behind Romeo having to wear an eye patch was true, as many for years thought it was simply a fashion statement.
“That’s a true story,” he said on “Nick Cannon Mornings” radio show. “Her and [former Immature member] Half Pint had got into it and she had a book in her hand, just tossed it back not thinking I was that close, cut my retina, detached it.”
Romeo continued, “The lens to my eye had fell out. And actually Brandon Adams had caught it. He was there. So he was there holding my lens, he didn’t know what was going on. Marq come in and we tryna hide it.” Houston then shared he came into the room to see Romeo on the bed shouting. In order to keep Brandy from getting into trouble, Houston tried to de-escalate the situation. Romeo was then rushed to the hospital where he had have three surgeries. Despite the horrifying incident, Romeo says he has since forgiven Brandy.
