Musicians have always been able to tour the world to reach their fans, until the current pandemic even took that away. Touring the world also involves groupies and plenty of artists have those stories as well, including R&B singer from Dru Hill – and it resulted in a child for him, allegedly.
Love children popping up in the span of pop culture is something that still happens, with superstar Drake being one of the latest ones to be caught – and to admit, that he had fathered a child with essentially a “groupie,” to use the old term.
Back in 2018, rappers Drake and Pusha T had beef which spilled onto wax that ended with the reveal of a secret child on Drake’s part. Pusha T, one half of group Tha Clipse and also President of G.O.O.D. Music, took aim at Drake with a monster diss record “The Story of Adidon,” which went down in the record books as one of the most savage clap backs on wax in a long while.
Featuring a controversial cover with Drake in blackface and wearing a Jim Crow t-shirt, “The Story of Adidon” broke the Internet because it broke the then-unknown news that Drake had a secret child named Adonis, targeted his producer’s multiple sclerosis and also featured a diss about Drake’s father that compared his fashion sense to that of Steve Harvey and his much-maligned suit style.
With son Adonis, Drake shared how much of a balancing act he has to achieve as a new father with a woman that he is still learning.
“I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who… you know, we’ve had our moments, right?” he shared. “And I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don’t have any desire for him to, like, not love his mother… I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible, and now I’m just really excited to be a great father. I have a son, he’s a beautiful boy.”
Drake stepping up seems to run counter to what artists used to do in the old days. Singer Sisqo at the time was one of the most successful artists, after hits with group Dru Hill and his own “Thong Song” becoming a global smash. Turns out that while on tour overseas, Sisqo slipped up – and has yet to accept the “child” he’s been alleged to have fathered.
Jamila Farid came forward and claimed that Sisqo had fathered a child with her when she was 14, unbeknownst to the singer. She claims the two had sex after a show in Zurich in 1999 and she got pregnant as a result, never telling him her age (and he apparently didn’t ask).
The young son, who now would be approximately an adult, was named Ian by his mother and at one point, she claimed that she showed up with a picture of the child to let “Mark” (Sisqo’s real name) see his child. During the height of Myspace, she also said she messaged him to which he replied, “’Ur child looks nothing like me.”
In Switzerland, the courts accept that a man is responsible for a child if he continues to refuse a DNA test, which Sisqo has indeed done for years. Courts in Switzerland accept a man is responsible for a child if he continues to refuse a DNA test.
He apparently still may be on the hook, as child support services were chasing Sisqo for £1,500 a month in — stretching back to when his son was two. Doing the math now, Sisqo is in for a hefty bill if he ever sets foot again in Switzerland.
With this pandemic happening, there is no telling as to when the “family” will resolve this.
