On top of this year being a doozy in general, some folks are catching extra rounds of difficulty as the quarantine stretches on. Rap superstar Eminem is one of those, because apparently, he’s been dealing with much more than stress about pop culture gossip.
It was just a few weeks ago that outlets were reporting on Eminem being stressed out from dealing with one of his famous ex-lovers that is about to release a memoir – the elusive chanteuse herself, Mariah Carey.
Eminem’s also been spending time cementing his legacy, recently re-releasing all of his classic music videos in high definition for a new generation. Hits like “Stan,” which is responsible for the Internet slang for a crazed fan, have become classics amongst the canon of hip-hop visuals during the heyday of his career.
Us Weekly initially reported that an Eminem insider shared that the 8 Mile rapper is “expecting” to hear about their beef in Mariah’s upcoming book. “Eminem’s Achilles heel has always been Mariah Carey. They had a very toxic relationship. He knows that Mariah is going to say very negative things about him. He is expecting the onslaught, and almost welcomes it.”
It escalated when one of Mariah’s best friends, Da Brat, seemed to corroborate Mariah’s version of events. Rapper Da Brat, who is a co-host on Dish Nation, spoke up about her friend Carey’s upcoming memoir and seemingly confirmed Eminem’s worse fears.
“He was never in bed with her. Let’s get this clear,” said Da Brat. “When y’all read, y’all will see that he prematurely ejaculated when they had all of their clothes on because he was excited that he was with Mariah. There was no sex.” Slim Shady’s “stans” took to Twitter to point out how meaningless this “tea” was because Eminem already rapped about it in his 2009 diss song to Mariah, “The Warning.”
Apparently, while all this discussion was happening, Eminem had been dealing with another “stan,” again – in real life.
Back in April, it had been reported that Eminem had been the victim of a home invasion by a fan named Matthew David Hughes, a 26-year old who broke into Em’s Detroit home. He had forced himself into the house via the kitchen, breaking the window with a rock. While the alarm went off, Eminem’s security didn’t – and Eminem came face to face with the intruder.
Appearing recently in court, the case has now gotten some updates on Hughes’ charges and what happened further on the night that he broke into Eminem’s home – and the court reporting proved chilling, laying out that the intruder possibly wanted more than an autograph.

said Matthew Hughes told him he was there to kill him.” Detective said that’s what Eminem told him after his home was broken into in April. Hughes pictured faces felony charges. Case now heads to Macomb County Circuit court September 28. pic.twitter.com/k5il3IGQjw
Hughes is still facing charges, presumably the same that he was arrested for — first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of a building.
