Saweetie and Quavo’s breakup has been messy to say the least, but the “Tap In” rapper is not looking to make light of their recently revealed elevator incident. While many thought the video would provide insight on why the couple split, Saweetie says the video is over a year old.
Trouble in paradise began when fans noticed the two had unfollowed each other on social media. Shortly after, they took to twitter to take jabs at each other. Saweetie fired first saying “I’m single. I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character.” She elaborated“I emotionally checked out a long time ago and have walked away with a deep sense of peace and freedom. Excited for this new chapter of elevation.”
Quavo hit back saying “I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.”
Rumors circulated soon after that maybe Quavo had cheated, while other speculated that he was upset about Saweetie appearing on the podcast Respectful Justin with ex Justin Combs. Other rumors emerged saying that Quavo had sent a repo man to take back the car he gifted Saweetie for Christmas.

When the video came out of the two fighting in an elevator, many pointed to domestic violence as a possible reason for the break-up.
The video of their elevator fight took place at an apartment complex in North Hollywood. It shows both of them standing outside an open elevator, and when the video starts Saweetie is swinging on Quavo. After she swings on him, he flings her into the elevator where she lays on the floor while they travel several levels. They eventually walk off, Saweetie limping behind Quavo.

Speaking with TMZ, Saweetie made sure to let people know the incident was over a year old and that the altercation was an unfortunate incident.
“This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on,” Saweetie said in her exclusive statement to TMZ. Earlier today, TMZ reported LAPD is currently investigating the incident and looking to meet with both, Saweetie and Quavo. “Our sources say the situation could be considered an instance of domestic violence, where both parties are in the wrong.”
