Will Smith’s takeover of social media continues, entanglements aside. After massive debuting on social media across many channels, Smith has made another name for himself outside of his illustrious career as an actor and rapper – influencer. He’s even teaming up with the likes of Jason Derulo, who’s become an influencer on TikTok himself and they’ve ratcheted things up quite a notch.
When one of the most recognizable faces on the planet finally joined social media in 2017, he became an instant celebrity – again. Will’s persona immediately earned him millions of followers, across many different platforms and solidifying his reach across different mediums and even eras.
Smith posted a video celebrating his first 10 million followers a while ago and explained that he’d avoided social media “for most of my career because in the past, to be a movie star you needed mystery and separation.” Now that social media has torn that wall down, whether for good or bad, Will’s jumped in with both feet in embracing it. He’s created a whole digital experience and also partnered with other businesses and platforms to create unique digital experiences that he could then share with all his millions of followers.
Will’s aware of his presence on social media, especially in light of the recent controversy that he experienced with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. After a bombshell interview about her affair with singer August Alsina, the word “entanglement” became a meme and started trending as the Internet digested their interview for answers and insight.
Will himself took a lighter stance on the use of the word when a fan dropped it in his comments on an Instagram video post of his own after the whole thing had started to blow over. Will, back to posting on Instagram after an alleged getaway with his wife and daughter Willow, joked with a poster after he shared a video of him jump roping.
“OK don’t get entangled,” the commenter wrote under Will’s post. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star actually took the time to comment back, more than likely surprising the person who left the comment. Will’s response? “Hahaha….Okay…I can admit it. That’s funny! I’m definitely gonna block you. But the joke was Very Funny!”
Embracing the younger generation along with their social media platforms, Will’s digital creations are often extravagant and professional, much like his fellow musician Jason Derulo. Derulo’s become a TikTok star, creating engaging content and doing daredevil stunts and tricks while becoming an influencer in addition to his platinum selling music career.
However, Derulo learned the hard way that all TikTok challenges, while they may be entertaining to watch, aren’t fun to create if you get hurt, especially. Doing the “corn drill challenge” on TikTok back in May seemingly cost Derulo some of his front teeth, but ulitimately proved to be false as he was later seen with all of his teeth intact, prank complete.
It’s with this energy that Will and Jason seemed to team up for a fun post recently.
Calling back to his own “traumatic” experience with his teeth, Derulo appeared to knock Will’s teeth out with a golf club while getting “lessons” from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. “Don’t swing yet,” Smith, 51, can be heard telling Derulo, 30, before he squats to adjust the singer’s stance.
“Put some ice on that,” Jason says as Will after Smith shows the camera that his two front teeth have been knocked out. Smith then grabs his own club and appears to take a swing at Derulo’s face to return the favor, before the video freezes and finishes.
