Kirk Franklin’s son Kerrion Franklin has no support amongst other famous fathers. While some blogs and fans have taken his side in the recent family drama, Steve Harvey is certainly not one of them.
Kerrion has been trying to expose his father for a few years now. He’s accused his dad of trying to k*ll him and trying to run him out of Hollywood.
Most recently he leaked audio of a toxic phone conversation between he and his father. Kerrion posted the clip to Instagram of Kirk doing the opposite of praise and worship for his son. “I’ll put my foot in your a**” and “I will break your neck ni***, don’t you ever disrespect me” are only a few of the things we hear an angered Kirk Franklin yelling.
Obviously embarrassed, Kirk released a statement explaining why he and his son were at odds. While he was vague, he did confirm that the Franklin family had some division and were working on it.
“Many of you know I have an older son named Kerrion Franklin. In May, he’ll be 33. For many years, we’ve had a toxic relationship with him as a family,” he said. “We tried for many years through counseling, through therapy, to try and rectify this private family matter.”
While other famous fathers like Snoop Dogg and Plies tried to find the humor in it, Steve Harvey is making it clear he doesn’t find it funny.
Speaking on his morning show, Harvey opened up about a conversation he had with Kirk, and his thoughts on the drama.
“I just called him to lift him up to tell him, ‘Get your head up off the dirt because you didn’t do nothing wrong…’ The pain that Kirk Franklin was in was twofold. First of all, the betrayal of his son, that had to be devastating. That you would think so little of me that you would take me at one of my rawest moments and try to destroy me by posting something that was purely between me and you. And his son knew exactly what he was doing. That’s why he posted it,” explained Harvey.
“But his son only posted the part that he thought could hurt Kurt, he didn’t post the part of what he was asking of Kurt. He didn’t post the part of what led up to Kurt’s anger.”
Harvey alluded to there being more to the story, but did not elaborate on what he knew. He went on to condemn people of the church and the unrealistic expectations they place on the gospel legend.
