Swizz Beatz is tired of defending himself, his past marriage and the current love of his life and he’s continued to bash back after people over the years have trolled him for his past. It’s almost been a decade since him and Alicia Keys tied the knot.
The two met when they were younger in the 90’s. While initially, they didn’t hit it off, Alicia Keys found herself reconnecting with Swizz – after he was already married. The anchor sound of Ruff Ryders fame had married singer Mashonda Tifrere – and had a child with her.
In 2009, Mashonda took to Twitter and sent Alicia Keys an open letter, confirming for the world that the “Superwoman” singer had broken up her marriage that included a newborn child.
“My concern with [Alicia Keys] is no longer the fact that she assisted in destroying a family but that she has the audacity to make these selfish comments about love and wanting to be with someone, even after knowing their situation,” she wrote, according to Vibe.
“I feel that after [one] and a half years of you hiding this affair and acting like it [doesn’t] exist, that now is the time to confront it, since you talk so openly about it now… You have no idea how much pain I was caused because of this affair.”
To make the whole ordeal even more painful, Mashonda is a singer herself with music produced by her famous then-husband Swizz Beatz.
Thanks to Will and Jada’s “entanglement” fiasco, Swizz and Alicia’s own fable of their connection and relationship roared back to life for some fans – since the Internet doesn’t forget. But much like Will an Jada took themselves to Jada’s own “red table” to discuss what happened between them for their fans’ benefit, so have Alicia and Swizz.
The “blended family” has written a book about their unique family setup and the healing that has come along with it, trying to allay the rumors and also turn the whole thing around in their favor. Keys even released a song, “Blended Family,” to drive home the fact that they’re happy and we should be happy for them.
While she prefers songs, her husband has taken to memes and whatever other way he feels of showing anyone that still has an opinion on their marriage that it’s invalid and people should move on.
The Shade Room captured the perfect example of Swizz being fed up, back in 2018. While on vacation with his wife in Cairo, Swizz was posting pictures which the gossip outlet picked up. Unknown to many at the time was the fact that Mashonda was with the family and they were enjoying a “blended” vacation.
To tamp down on the negativity that started to creep into the comments of the post, Swizz responded himself and told people how he felt about their negativity.
“Haters would say home wrecker or I got stolen like some bank robbery,” he said in a comment about how people believe his marriage to Keys was initiated by her. “Meanwhile, @mashondatifrere is on vacation with us,” before ending with “GET A LIFE!!!!”
