SWV’s Coko Reveals Reason She Was ‘Irritated’ During Verzuz Battle, Says She Witness A Woman Gun-ned Down In Front Of Her Hotel Window

Mother’s Day weekend brought with it the long awaited Xscape vs. SWV: Verzuz battle. The popular 90’s girl groups went head to head in a setlist that included hits from both their extensive catalogs. Unlike last years Mother’s Day installment between Jill Scott and Erykah Badu which took place virtually, the ladies of Xscape and SWV were able to be present in the same room and put on a real show for their fans.

The set kicked off with a DJ battle between DJ Aone and DJ Spinderella of formerly of fellow 90’s girl group Salt-n-Pepa. They played mixes spotlighting several great artists from the same era including Brandy, Zhane, Monica and more.

The show was sponsored by Urban Decay who provided a beautifully lit stage. The ladies of both Xscape and SWV were decked out in all black to compliment one another. The night was less of a battle and more of a true celebration of their catalogs and the eras in which they reigned supreme much like recent verzus between Brandy and Monica and Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.

Despite the friendly affair some sites did opt to keep score for those wondering, you can head over to Billboard.com to see which songs they played and who won which round. For some fans of the girls however, the real focus was on SWV front woman Coko who seemed noticeably irritated during the first half of the night. Taking time to acknowledge the fans, Coko took to her instagram to let them know that she was indeed frustrated, however it had nothing to do with the show.

She wrote, “Last night as I’m preparing for Verzuz, a lady was shot outside my hotel window. To see & hear the four shots, see her laying on the ground and all the blood was unbelievable!!”

Coko added, “Thennnn…I get to the venue and had a really bad anxiety attack! Literally crying & screaming. Yeah y’all saw me looking uncomfortable & irritated during the first half but, if it wasn’t for my son @jayyemichael @ynottamiya & @mrljb I probably wouldn’t have been out there at all. Thank you for calming me down & understanding my mental. I love y’all to the fullest!! I always say most won’t care to understand but when you get those that do cherish them!!”

Fans flooded her comments with love, support and understanding. Despite her energy she did pull it together for the latter half and had a good show. According to twitter she was the stand out of the night.
